I attended a meeting in early June where I was practically told I would be accepted into the Honors College at Michigan State. However, it's been over a month since I recieved my acceptance letter (With Lyman Brigges selected as a major) and I've received no word.

Is there any chance I didn't get in?

My info
Male
3.99 GPA (Unweighted)
6/307 class rank
33 ACT
Numerous extracurricular activities
AP Chem/AP calc, other honors courses

Granted, I'm probably worrying for nothing, but I'd have to rethink my college choices if I didn't get in.

Honors college is automatic. Don’t worry, you’ll get it soon :). Plus you’ll probably get a Professorial Assistantship which is a crap ton of money lol.

Yeah with your stats you are definitely in the honors college. Don’t worry, they normally send out the honors college invitations towards mid-November-beg. of December. With your stats you will receive a minimum of $2000/yr through the STATE scholarship and a professorial assistantship as well (approx. $2300/yr through sophomore year).

DS got his HC scholarship info yesterday - $15,800/year (makes OOS tuition equal IS tuition) plus Professorial Assistantship ($2500), plus $5K for study abroad.
Should also get the NMS award of free R&B plus $4K.
And there is always the competition for Alumni Distinguished Scholarship in February - for a full ride!
I hope he likes this college when we visit in February!

My friend just found out she got into the honors college yesterday, and she got accepted to msu about six weeks ago, so I wouldn’t worry if I were you.

Sorry to hijack this, but is the only requirement for a professorial assistantship a 33 ACT?

I have a 32 ACT/Top 20% class rank right now as a Senior. I think I can get this to a 33 maybe, but I would rather know what their SAT equivelant is.

It is true that you have to be an honors college invitee to be offered a professorial assistantship, but just for reference, the PA SAT equivalent to the 33 ACT is 1500 (math + critical reading). If you’re a National Merit semifinalist invited to the Honors College, that will also qualify you for the assistantship. The Honors College does say that if you are close to the requirements for an Honors College invitation, they’ll take a more comprehensive look, but I have a feeling that this is more if you’re top 7% instead of top 5% - probably not so much if you’re only top 20%.

Yeah, I think that whole they’ll look if you’re close thing is crap lol. I was top 7% with a 33 ACT. I think they just have too many people now to take anything beyond the cutoff.

^^^ even if you don’t get into the honors college initially, you still have an opportunity to join the honors college as a current student (IF you get a 3.5 or above the first semester/year you are at MSU).

^ fa-la, the honors college guy told us that you have to be in the top 10% of your college in order to get an invitation after the first semester.

^^^oh yeah you are right. However on average the top 10% based off GPA is a 3.5. So a 3.5+ should be a safe bet for admission into the honors college (for the large majority of majors)
