I recently was accepted into UF and invited into the honors program. Is UF honors program really worth the extra time and money? Do I have to stay at Hume? Is there a downfall if I get rejected from the honors program?

Thank You!

Thank You!

I have basically the same questions about this.

Also,
Does it make a difference what major you’re in?
What would be the approximate amount of extra time the honors program takes up on a weekly basis?

Honestly, the honors program is not like you’d expect. I never was in the program, but i was allowed to take the “exclusive-to-honor-students” anyways. There isn’t much difference to a normal class i think. Above all, most classes are dumb ones (like oragami class). Apparently though, there is a benefit in graduating with having done the program, though I am unsure about it.

There isn’t a benefit in graduating—there’s a different designation for honors in the major, which actually matters. I’m pretty sure you don’t have to live in Hume, and you can register early for some (or all) classes depending. However, as one of the above posters mentioned, you can still take honors classes, but you may not get priority registration. I would say apply just because there’s no reason to limit yourself.

So what you’re saying is there aren’t really any downsides to being in the honors program?

D is in Honors. It has a lot of nice perks (like the early registration mentioned earlier), some nice socials, your own academic advisor, etc. You do NOT have to live in Hume. It is a wonderful dorm, practically like hotel living, but is definitely less social than other dorms. You should definitely apply, if for no other reason than it will look good on your resume when applying for jobs and such during and after college. It certainly does not require a lot of extra time and the dues are only something like $50.

Although I’m currently a freshman @ FSU, I was admitted to Florida honors last year and only attended FSU due to financial constraints. In my opinion, you should —DEFFINATELY— apply to honors for the following-

^^Got into UF honors. Doesn’t know how to spell definitely.
