Anyone else going?

I am! Hanging around for the saturday program too- there’s a lot of over lap but… i just want to get a good feel for the school and the campus.

I can’t go for honors day because I have midterms friday but I’ll be there for the admitted students day. I’ve already enrolled and have visited before, but am mainly going up there to show my dad around.

I’m going to Pittstart on May 24-25. Ironically, I won’t have even gotten my diploma yet.

Question - I can;t find a location for Honors Day program anywhere - I assume it is in the Cathedral of Learning - anyone??

My son has also enrolled also, but we signed up for this before he decided for sure. His dad took him last time, so this time I will get a chance to see the school.

He is also taking advantage of early registration, so he will be officially registered for classes on Friday - that makes it real!!

Nevermind - found an old e-mail. Alumni Hall

Have fun! I recommend taking the bus tour of the city.

My d loves Pittsburgh now-she and her dad took the bus tour. But, they didn’t get to see Forbes because the guide said it was 4 blocks away. Also got to see pharmacy school, and liked the food under Towers.

We didn’t see the rooms in Forbes eaither. But the guide said that they are bigger than the room we did see in the Towers.

We ate in Market Central also - definitely bettter than some restaurant food I have had and plenty of options.

He registered for classes and got everything he wanted and when we looked up his professors on Rate Your Professor they all seem to be great.

5 months til we go back for orientation.

Donnamom-we are sending in our deposit this Monday. We could not make this weekend as planned but will be there for three days over our spring break.
Do you know if my daughter can register for classes then and how do they handle AP test credit for tests taken this May?
Any help is appreciated.

@alantill - I don’t know if you can register then or not - this was an add-on to Honors Day.

My son is taking 4 APs this year. Based on his grades they assumed he would get 4s and placed him put of the beginner classes except the English Comp class because you need a 5 to place out of that. If he gets the 5 then they will change his schedule.

Usually schedule changes because of AP exam scores can be handled by e-mail. She’ll be able to register without a problem and can work with her advisor to gauge which level she thinks would be best based on an estimate of her scores. When she receives her scores, if she needs to alter her schedule, she can e-mail or call her advisor to have him/her make changes accordingly.

thanks for both responses.
divel-How will she be assigned an advisor? I’m going to call on Monday what dept. should I ask for? I want to set an appointment for when we’re there the following week.
Right now she has 5’s on both English lit and US history from last year.
Plans to take calc, french, stat, us gov, and english lang with hope of at least 4’s.

We paid our deposit online and within a week we received a letter that D could register on Honors day in April. In the letter it said that you would follow the normal morning Honors Day sessions but in the afternoon you would meet with an advisor. Hope this helps.

@alantill - We were not told who his assigned advisor was until we got there to register.
For him the registration was done through the School of Arts and Sciences. He can;t officially declare a Comp sci major and get a CS advisor until he completes the basix first level classes. They will discuss APs at that advisor meeting

@vryproudmom - That was exactly how it worked. AM was the Honors Stuff, then he met with his advisor for about 2 hours and came out a registered student. She gave him a lot of information and helped him pick out clasees,

We can not attend one of the honors day sessions. We will be there April 5-7 arriving in afternoon on the 5th.
Do you think we can meet with someone on Tuesday to pick out schedule?
I’m going to call tomorrow to look into this. We’re travelling over 5 hours so we want to make this trip worthwhile.
Thanks for all the responses.

@alantill - just sent you a PM that might be helpful.

alantill,
I know how you feel. We are driving 6 hrs from South Jersey and it is nice to get this done so early. I just found my letter about registration. It says if you have any questions about early registration to call Damon Wehrli at 412-624-1550.

@vryproud - You are better than me. I won’t do that drive (8hrs for me). I am becoming a fan of JetBlue. It’s such a good feeling to have the registration all done and know he got all the classes that he wanted.

DonnaMom,
Did they tell you right on the spot that there was room in these classes, or is this subject to change?
Also when you fly did you have to arrange your own transfer to the hotel/University or does the college arrange a ride for you as they would for students already attending Pitt?
Thanks

When the kids register, they are in the class officially. Also, there is a bus from the airport to the student union. I don’t know the number, but once your child has an ID he or she can ride all the city buses at no additional charge. My daughter uses the buses to the airport when she flies home and back.
