My school is starting to choose classes for next year, and this is my projected class schedule:
Advanced English 10
AP World History
Advanced Algebra 2
Advanced Chemistry
Chinese 3 (no honors available)
I am a freshman taking Honors Biology (it’s honors but we take the AP at the end of the year). Science has never been my favorite or best subject, but I thought I would try an honors science course to see how I fared. Currently, my grade is a B. I wanted to know if I am taking the highest lane in english, history, and math, do I need to take an honors science or can I take regular? My reach school is NYU, and I definitely do not plan on pursuing science as a career.
I dont know much, but I know advanced science and math, possible even english, are important to get into a school like that. I’ve been told advanced history classes dont really mean nearly as much as advanced math. (AP Econ or USH < AP Calcs)
This isnt too helpful, but it seems English is important: http://www.nyu.edu/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/apply/transfer-applicants/instructions/high-school-preparation.html
I’m quite familiar with NYU’s admissions since I attend a school in NYC and we send off a good portion of our graduating classes there (maybe 4-9 a year) anyways, if you’re only a sophomore you don’t have to worry about taking AP Sciences especially since you have no plans on going into them later in life but take one and try your best. Social Studies and English though are important to a school like NYU which has strong departments in both. Your schedule looks good for now but maybe look into taking some electives to show that you’re using your time effectively. What do you plan on pursuing major wise if you have any ideas?
If you can handle it, take it. If you can’t, don’t stress over it.
Note that honors classes arent always much more difficult than regular ones. Advanced chem should be fine so long as you do your work/ddon’t procrastinate
