Honors housing

I think that as far as which date determines priority acceptance, the housing application date is the most important. But, if you send in the enrollment deposit after the other honors kids (if you're waiting for honors housing) then you may be too late. As I said earlier, we sent in that 50 dollars back in early October, then the very same day that we sent in the enrollement $ over the internet, UT was on the phone with us asking if d wanted an honors dorm room. So I do think that they honor that statement on their website that says that they proiritize your application according to when you send in the 50 dollars.

You could definitely try calling the housing and food services department and asking. I talked twice to the same person. She's the one who told me last week that there were only 30 honors rooms left for females.

And she also said that we would not know which honors dorm d would be in, only that she would have one of the three. We'll find out which one in the summer with everyone else, I guess.

D is still wavering about schools, so I am taking a big financial chance on all this money going to UT. ...Playing the dorm game. But the 300 dollars is refundable until May 1st for first time freshman.

Also, I think there are plenty of other opportunities than the honors dorms which would be just fine. San Jacinto seems to be popular. D visited The Castillian and thought it was very nice as dorms go (it's private). There's also that freshman Interest group (FIG) option. For all I know, d may not be getting the best physical environment by signing up for the honors dorms. I would really like to have seen all these dorms and talked to people about them first, but that's just not going to happen.

Good luck to you.

twl007, I think your Sept 2004 app will help you if there are still spots available. Better pursue it diligently.

I called them specifically to ask that. The date that determines priority acceptance into any dorm is the date that you turned in your housing APPLICATION (the $50). If you turned in your app in September you will probably get what you wanted. :)
