Honors Humanities.. and Dorms

Hi there-- I just confirmed my enrollment at UMCP and applied for housing as a freshman the other day. I also accepted an invitation into the Honors Humanities program.

However, I'm pretty disconcerted about my housing options. I have heard that Wicomico is very cramped and uncomfortable. But at the same time, I have also heard that the Honors Humanities program is a great program to be in and meet people (because of the small size partially).

I am wondering if someone could advise me as to whether or not the size of Wicomico is worth the close-knit community (please note that I'm a little claustrophobic and although I like meeting new people, I would rather not have to be too physically close to them all of the time). Also, I have only heard about the doubles in Wicomico, so would a single be any better?

Alternately, if I am in the Honors Humanities program, will living in another dorm be disadvantageous? Or would it be a better choice?

Thank you so much!

Congrats on getting into HH. My daughter is in HH also and I suggested she live in Wicomico for at least the first year since the other freshmen dorms are pretty far away and most of the offices and activities for HH will be in and around Wicomico (at least this is what I have heard.)

I’m sure any dorm room will seem cramped and many don’t have air conditioning, which is only a problem for a few weeks during the school year.

Good luck!

Other than the few that have a/c, none of the freshman dorms would be called luxurious. And certainly, not worth what you’d be giving up by not living near the folks in your program.

I’m bumping this post.

I’m pretty sure I’ll be living in wicomico next year, and I’m willing to make some sacrificies to live in the Honors Humanities dorm, but all the same, I’d like to know what I’m getting in to.

Could anyone who currently lives in wicomico, or has in the past, speak to the pros and cons of living there? Thanks.

My S is finishing his freshman year in HH and lives in Wicomico. Yes, his dorm room is quite small, but he likes the location and the fact that Wicomico isn’t a high-rise. Next year he will be in a different (but similar style) dorm with A/C, so he’s pretty excited about that.
