So I have an interview for the Honors College. Is this the norm or does it mean my admittance is borderline? Any advice would be appreciated. I've been accepted to the Engineering Program which I am thrilled about. Being accepted into the Honors Program would be wondeful.

Hi , yes I also received and email for an interview then 2 hours later received an email letting me know that a glitch in the system as having sent out wrong emails! I plan on calling them tomorrow as I only saw both emails a few hours ago ( i’m on the west coast). Anyone with the same problem???

Yes. To be considered for acceptance into the Honors College, they look at your application and if they are interested they will request an interview. I got accepted to the honors college and I am part of the engineering program as well. Just go to the interview and be yourself. Best of Luck!

Yes the honors interview email a couple days ago was a glitch in the system. I think it got many people’s hopes up and then back down unfortunately.

^ Agree with Luminiz. The interview as as much about impressing the student and their parent(s) as it was about evaulating the student. I thought it was well done, and has definitely piqued the interest of my son who now has NJIT in his final four (of his college interest, not NCAA basketball!) We will be visiting one more time the first week in April.

Nice mtown27. What colleges are on your sons final list if you don’t mind me asking?

NJIT, Rutgers, Stony Brook, UMBC with TCNJ, CUA, and RIT on the fringes. Rutgers is slightly in the lead (both my wife and I went there), and half of his clothing has a block R, but I think he’s really liking the more intimate (relatively speaking) feel of the other schools.

NJIT stands out in his mind because he likes the fact that they have a formal Coop program, he liked the campus and the diversity of the students, and the perks and challenges of the Honors College. Doesn’t hurt the the dining hall has sushi either …

Got that same “Glitch” email last night. I’m glad I’m not the only one. I thought maybe I was put on the interview list my mistake and that I didn’t get into Honors. I received another email today saying my application will be reviewed and I will hear soon. Still a little nervous though but I guess there’s still hope. Good luck to everyone.

^ actually, my son also got the “glitch” email – and he was already accepted. In didn’t solely affect the applicants who are in process.

Hello,
Well yesterday they sent me an email apologizing for the error and rescheduling my interview. BTW how soon after the interview does one get to know the whether one is accepted into the Honors program? Thanks

How soon after your interview did you get your acceptance into the honors program?

For me it was about week or little more. However on the acceptance letter it was postmarked the day after my interview. I’m not sure if that is common. Good luck.

It may depend on whether you’re applying to the Honors College alone, or to an accelerated program as well. My son, who is in the former category, interviewed in December and found out that he was being recommended for acceptance at the end of the interview.

Thankyou! Since I am an OOS , I have a telephone interview. Any advice will be highly appreciated. Want to make it into Honors college.,yes applying only for the Honors college…no accelerated program.

Recalling the my son’s experience (and mine as well, as I was invited in half way through the interview), I would cite the following takeaways:

The leaders of the ADHC seem to be genuinely good people who want to make the candidate feel welcome. Like any good interviewer, they are spending equal time evaluating … and recruiting.

What does this mean for you?

Don’t expect any “gotcha!” questions.

They may ask you to clarify or go into further depth on what you discussed in your Honor’s essay.

They are going to want to gauge your interest in the different features of the Honors College, so make sure that you’re prepared to discuss that. So, if you think you like the access to research opportunities, co-op, or travel abroad – or any of the ADHC distinctives – be prepared to share your enthusiasm. (If you really don’t have a genuine interest in at least some the different aspects of the ADHC, you probably have other options that may be more appealing to you.)

I hope this helps!

Oh, and one more thing … unfortunately, a telephone interview is much tougher than an in-person interview, as you don’t have the benefit of the non-verbal cues. One way of overcoming that is to “check back in” after you respond to a question, say with a question such as, “did I fully address your question?”

Thank you mtown27. That definitely helps a lot and I will keep in mind your suggestions as I prep for the interview.

Thanks Luminiz, mtown27, an update the interview went well assuming that the interviewer said she is recommending D for the ADHC. how soon after can we expect the letter? does the letter also have scholarship details or is that sent seperately?

So I’m still waiting for word on an interview for Honors. I’m guessing I’m not being considered. Status on the portal is still “complete ready for review”
Here are my stats:

SAT 1300/1600
1980/2400
GPA 4.1 WEIGHTED
CLASS RANK 93/424 I know my class rank is poor. I lost track a little in 8th grade but I’ve been working hard to gain some lost ground. I tried explaining this in my essay.
Taking 3 AP classes.
Good amount of ECs also

If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Not sure if I should try emailing or if my stats are just too low??

Received a full scholarship offer from Rowan School of Engineering but my preference is TCNJ.

I would try to call their office first. Usually it’s the fastest way to get information on your status.
