So I was accepted into Rutgers over a month ago (Camden SAS and NB Engineering), but no word yet on Honors Program qualification. Does it come with scholarship info, or do you assume that you're not qualified if you haven't gotten something yet?

Does your school rank? You need to be top X% to get into honors. 5 years ago, when my daughter was applying, because her school didn’t rank, she was not selected for honors. I only found out when I called admission. It is all done by their computer. My kid’s GC had to fax over a letter to give them an approximation of her ranking. Within days she received the letter for honors program.

Each school has a different requirement for its honors program. For ex. RU NB SAS requires at least a 600 on CR to be considered. You do not need to apply, you are automatically looked at. If you dont receive a notification by February, you can apply online for consideration.

you dont need to worry. i was the last person in the top 10% at my school (33 out of 334), and i got in. it takes some time, i forget exactly when i recieved my notification, but it was at least a month after i got in (i got in on thanksgiving)

actually you don’t need rankings to get Honors, my school doesn’t give them and i didn’t report any on the SRAR, nor have i sent anything official over yet (i.e. transcript/letter) so they have no ranking whatsoever about me, just my gpa, grades, and SAT, and i still got Honors. though i did have a very high SAT so perhaps they waive the ranking requirement for that?

honors notification takes a super long time though, don’t worry about it yet. it does not come with scholarship info, they are sent separately.

RBS* lol and the business school doesnt have its own honors program like engineering. instead, it partners with the SAS honors program. If you’re planning on joining RBS, the qualifications for the honors program are the same as the SAS honors program

here are my stats:
SAT: 2390 (800 CR, 790 M, 800 W)
Grades: Mostly As except a few B+s/Bs here or there sophomore year and one C freshman year.
GPA: 4.11 W
lots of ECs and volunteering though i don’t think those were factored into honors designation

ACT: 32
GPA: 4.23 (Everything A or A+ except for 2-3 A-)
ECs: MANY different activities (esp musical theater and chorus), community service, poetry reciting
School: Public in NJ
Rank: Top 10% out of 155 (school does not send rank)

I was also legacy and my mom donates money every year. We also have football season tickets and she has had them since 1980.
I received a letter saying I made it into honors. If i dont make it into any ivys/top tiers i will prob end up doing SAS Honors in NB for around $6k a year thanks to scholarship, plus my parents would buy me a car because I’m saving them so much money…

Hey johring, that last part sounds like what I’ll hopefully be doing (that is, in the inevitable event of me getting rejected from ivies/top tier schools, I’d go to Rutgers cheaply and with a new car hahaha).

If it has been about a month and a half since I’ve been accepted and I’ve still received nothing about honors (for the NB SOE), is this a sign?

Sorry, college jitters - I’m probably just being impatient and overreacting.

oh, by the way, everyone
just a quick thought but don’t give up hope on honors even if you have somewhat lower stats
i know a lot of people from my school with lower stats that got honors so i think perhaps it’s not entirely dependent on stats

one of my friends who completely trashed his GPA junior/senior year is now a freshman in honors and loving it
and the resident dealer/druggie in my school, who graduated 2 years ago, is also in honors
just a few examples

Hello! I was accepted into Rutgers University SAS in NB last month but I still haven’t heard anything about the Honors program. Do they send an e-mail or information through the mail? I am just wondering because I believe my SAT scores and GPA are high enough for the Honors program.
