I’m having some trouble deciding my junior year courses. So far, these are my definite courses:

AP Language & Comp
AP USH
AP Chem
Honors Spanish
Honors Precalculus

The way my schedule works, I have to choose between Honors Physics or AP Stat for my 6th course. I cannot take both. If I take physics as a junior, I will take AP Physics as a senior. If I take AP Stat instead of physics as a junior, I will take AP Bio as a senior. Any advice as to which would be better? If this helps, I’m extremely driven and willing do to an enormous amount of work. My primary interest is actually English, in which I hope to major (my work has won several awards, like scholastic awards and such). I am also interested in a career in the business field.

Well, if you're the english type, AP Bio will probably be easier for you than AP Physics, which requires a more 'math' brain than stats. However, it won't matter that much. Personally, I would go with the physics-ap physics route, but for an english-driven person, I would say stats-bio.

AP Stat is a prereq for AP Bio. Wow!
I would suggest that you take a physics course atleast once. It somewhat helps in college apps. Can you take honors physics as a senior so that you can get the best of both worlds.

yes, i mean i guess i could take honors physics as a senior, but (shallow as this sounds) taking an honors class senior year would put me at a disadvantage in the "race" for valedictorian...

Do you think you deserve to be valedictorian? Or your classmates are smarter and better than you? AP Stat is an useless class and it's not required for AP Bio. Take something that will help your application to U Penn.

one more question: do you think that not having AP Stat on my transcript would be a blemish in my application if I apply to Wharton, even if I had AP Calc BC?

Well, to be honest (and I hope this doesn't sound conceited), I really do believe that I deserve to be valedictorian. I'm extremely dedicated to my schoolwork, and my diligence has led to an A+ in all but two of every academic course I have taken so far. I know that I am one of the smartest people in my grade, and the most well-rounded. I am also friends with all the students I am up against because they are bright, wonderful people whom I respect.

You don't really need AP Stat if you have AP Calc BC. That's what I advised my son. I think it's OK to have both on transcript but some people may have negative thought (going after grade). It's not blemish if you don't have AP Stat.
