Hey guys! So I got the Honors Program for Rose Hill notification a couple of weeks ago (on 12/21 to be exact), but because I have been absolutely swamped with other apps, I haven’t been able to really research it. Now that all my apps are in, I have a few questions about HP and Fordham in general!
Do you room with other Honors Program kids?
How rigorous is the curriculum? Is it manageable, or is it as overwhelming as I hear it is
I entered as a biology major, but I’m thinking about switching to anthropology because it’s very similar to the majors I applied to at my other colleges. Is this possible/will it affect my HP status?
How’s the party scene? Or just the social scene in general.
Thanks in advance!!!
Hi. I am in the Honors program at LC so I hear about RH sometimes. LC’s Honors program is very laid back and casual—and we’re told RH is the opposite. RH’s Honors program is a classic liberal arts program and quite rigorous and not very flexible (I may be wrong though). It’s just a regular Honors program; LC is the weird one. The thesis at the end of Senior year is a regular essay thesis with a formal presentation. Here at LC your thesis can be a movie ha.
Your major shouldn’t matter (well, it wouldn’t in LC) but liberal arts majors go “better” with the Honors program in general.
@Matachines
I just got accepted to the honors program at LC today! Is it okay if I PM you some questions?
For my daughter’s final thesis, she produced a concert. (LC)
She used the honors room all the time when she needed to get away from her suite mates for a while. That was a huge perk.
@curiositysquared Sure, I’ll try to come here more often. I also posted on your thread.
@childish20 - Congratulations! I don’t know where the Honors kids are dormed, but from what I remember from my daughter, she wasn’t honors, but a lot of her friends were, they were mainly in Queens Court. But I know a few of them were Gabelli Honors, so I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.
Also, you said you are considering doing Anthropology instead of Biology. I would highly recommend you doing that. The Anthropology program is really good. A couple of my daughter’s friends are majoring in that and love it.
My D is in the honors program at RH. The honors students can select any dorm, except for the newest freshman dorm as everyone in that dorm is in the Manresa program and honor program students can’t be in the Manresa program. My D was in Queens as a freshman. Her freshman roommate was not in the honors program. Many, but not all, of the honors program students lived in Queens. After freshman year, you select your roommates.
The curriculum was rigorous but manageable. My D worked very hard but got it all done and feels that she learned a lot about how to write good essays and papers. She loved the cooperative spirit among the students - when papers were due, many of the students would gather in Alpha House to write their papers. Students would bounce ideas off of one another. My D liked the companionship while writing her papers.
Your major will not affect HP status. My D was undecided when she entered college and didn’t select her major until sophomore year.
I can’t really speak to the social life, but I do know that my D joined a club freshman year and has made wonderful friends through the honors program, the club and the dorms and is having a great college experience.
Here is a link to an essay written by a student in the RH honors program. It really captures my D’s feelings about her experience at Fordham.
