Hi! Anyone out there have a S or D currently in the MT program who also does the honors program at Syracuse. My D got an invite to that today also and she is concerned that she will not have time to do this type of program too…She wrote to the Dean to ask but I just wondered if anyone could give and opinion.

I am a freshman BFA Acting major with a concentration in dance at Syracuse

I am not aware of what the Honors Program can be because as a MT major or Acting Major there are no general ed classes required and there is no "level" to the drama program and the only academics you take are 3 to 6 credits of anything you want per semester. Maybe those would be at a honors level. Unless she is doing a double major which in itself would be a miracle to accomplish with our schedule.

I would be interested to know what you find out.

My D received a letter informing her of her eligibility and inviting her to the Renee Crown University Honors Program. She is accepted as a BFA MT. After a few calls to SU offices, they tell her she can accomplish this within her curriculum and then she can determine whether to continue in her other years. It is a very interesting program with what we have read....

Thanks for your response I appreciate it.

I know two students this past year who were in the honors program within our drama department. They put on their own shows as a part of their Senior Thesis. So it IS possible and HAS been done. Just don't know what it entails.

I am an incoming freshman MT in the Honors Program. Basically, being in the honors program allows you to take a few more credits, which can be anything from more dance class to another English course. They gave me an outline of the requirements for my four years and, while I don't have it with me, I do remember that it went nicely with the drama requirements. Many of them included "Collaborative Courses" and things like that, which are easily covered by acting class. It also has a few perks including an Honors' Study Hall and mandatory lectures with some pretty interesting people. It also allows you to take honors courses to fill your academic requirements. However, I wasn't invited into the Honors' Program with my acceptance letter. Instead, I applied shortly after I visited in April (I think the deadline was April 26th) and was accepted a few weeks later. I'm excited that I'm doing it and if it ever gets to be too much, I'll transfer out of it.
