Honors Program

Hello!

DD applied ED and was accepted into Class of 2016!! She submitted her Presidential Scholarship application and is attending the weekend of Feb. 10th.

However, we've heard little of the Honors Program. Can anyone give us any info. on this? It's one of the main reasons she applied at HPU- we were fairly confident she'd qualify for the Honors Program.

Is there a separate application, or are the students automatically admitted if they meet the criteria?

Any info. appreciated!

You get invited, based on your high school GPA, but if you aren’t invited you can apply if your GPA is high enough your first year at HPU. 3.45 to stay in the Honors Program. They do monthly activities/outings. For instance this past fall they went to an amusement park and a Titanic exhibit, and this was at no cost to the students. My D took 2 honors courses this past fall, because it fit into her schedule. Once invited you will receive more info regarding honors courses, etc. York Hall has 2 floors of honors housing, apartment style. My daughter lives there and is hoping to stay there next year. Hope this helps, and keep the questions coming. We love sharing HPU info!

High Point University also encourages applicants for the Media Entertainment Fellows Program. As of this current school year, HPU selects sixteen Communication majors, all freshmen, and places them in a living-learning program called Media Entertainment Fellows. Eight boys and eight girls, all representing different tracks of the school of communication, live on the same floor (next door to each other) and are the only students i their respective communication classes. The director is the former Vice President at NBC and Lifetime studios, with her graduate degree from Harvard University. The program, though for strictly Communication students, also provides the students with guaranteed internship opportunities. Right now, I believe the students holding very big positions at various local service institutions (Chamber of Commerce, YMCA, etc.) and this upcoming summer the Media Fellows will be interning at both the republican and Democratic conventions. In addition, they will spend the upcoming summer with internships in LA, NY and an international internship. There is a scholarship offered for the program as well. Every year HPU will seek 16 more students for the program. Only incoming freshman can apply. Its the first year the program is around and although it hasn’t received much publicity, it is an incredible opportunity and all those who completed the Presidential Scholarship essay had an opportunity to apply. HPU has an incredible communication school and being in this program, in my opinion, is an incredible and honorable opportunity.
