Honors Program?

I got something int he mail about the Thurgood Marshall honors program…any one else get this?

im confused, is there a schoolwide honors program too? or is it just by college?

and it didnt seem like the TMC hnors program offered much…it just had something about seminars/discussion groups…

I'm in the Revelle Honors seminar. We meet once a week for about 1.5 hours and listen to various people talk about their work or various experiences they've had. For example, we had a psychologist come in and talk about his work in retraining someone who was blind from birth and regained his eyesight, an ex-olympic cyclist, a climatologist who frequently travels to antarctica and south america. It's a pretty laid back seminar (0 units...so it's really no work at all, just a 1.5 time commitment) and quite interesting.

As to what it offers you, well...its interesting at the least. Plus, if you like what you hear someone talking about, they're open to you contacting them and then working in their labs.

:)

i see....is there like an honors program at SD, outside of these honors seminars?

thanks for ur response!

As far as I know, no, not university wide. This helps keeps things small though...the Revelle honors seminar has about 20 people in it.

That said, specific majors have honors tracks, but that's a completely different animal.

:)

ic ic...thanks a lot man

does anyone know about Revelle's humanities or writing program? what's it like, and how can you participate in it? someone told me about it and i think they said it was called "hume"..

if you're in revelle, it's required.

karthikkito, can you take the humanities classes during the summer after your freshmen year? can you take like humn.3 and 4 for one summer?
Would you recomend to take it during the summer, I heard that it would be easier?
Is the grade counted toward your GPA calculation?

Does the Regents Scholarship automatically get you into the honors program for your college (I'm in Warren College)?

yes, for 3, 4, 5 during the summer. you can also take equivalents for those at community colleges. most take 1, 2 during the school year, though, so you might as well join them.

it's a 6 unit course while most other classes are 4...so it weighs heavily on your gpa.

:)

If I remember correctly, Karthikkito, you said that you transfered from a community college right(?). So what class did you take to exempt from taking humanities classes there. If you take it during the summer at UCSD does the grade count and what if you take it at other colleges!!
WOW 6 units!!!

Er...I came here straight from high school.
