Honors Program

Hey, I just received my acceptance letter for the Honors Program today. Has anyone else been accepted yet and, if so, have you decided whether or not you will go for it?

From what I know of current students (nemo will know more) I think it is a good program and you should go for it if you are accepted! Congrats!

is the notre dame scholar thing the honors program?

they are different I believe. ND Scholar you are named when you apply but then you can apply for the honors program after you are accepted

then wats the big deal about being a notre dame scholar thingie in the admissions pamphlet i dont understand it

Someone may correct me on this but if my understanding is correct...beyond the honor and recognition, there really isn't it really isn't a big deal. I think it is more of a pat on the back honestly and recognition for being one of the top applicants (and perhaps an invite to apply to the honors program). I have never heard of great benefits from it though some do say there are some with financial aid...it is debated.

I think I can help
ND Scholars are designated to the top 20% of the admitted students. As Irish said, it's a pat on the back. It doesn't entitle you to anything, really. The Honors program is only open to about 85 people--as they said, the "top of the top." You have to apply to prove to them that you know what you're gettting into and you want to do it. I'm pretty sure once you apply you're golden. Someone said they missed a few kids bc they chose the honor kids all in one day (!!) so don't worry yet if you haven't received anything.

as far as I know being an ND scholar is not a criteria for consideration by the Honors Program. Also in recent years HP has held itself to about 30 kids from Arts and Letters and 30 from College of Science. IWTGTGSS9, you are incorrect in your assumption that one can actively seek application to this program, an invitation is extended by them for you to apply.

I'm sorry if you misunderstood me. When I said "apply" I used the same verb that appears on the invitation. When the Honors letter comes in the mail, you aren't automatically in. They ask you to apply by submitted a one page essay.
On a similar note, you can actively seek admission. A sophomore from my town wasn't not invited in the program and when his mom inquired, they gave him an application. They chose the candidates in one day so its understandable that they might miss qualified candidates.
