Honors Registration

Received the Orientation booklet in the mail and called the school to find out if there was a different one for Honors (said no). What classes are Honors students supposed to take? COULD be in the book, haven't looked at it all that closely, but thought someone might know. Thanks!

Honors - University of Michigan

The basic four requirements for an underclass Honors student are:

* an average of two Honors courses per term for the four full terms of underclass Honors
* a course load of 14-18 credit hours
* an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.4 or better
* the Literature and Ideas requirement.

Your first semester, you have to take either Great Books or Classical Civilizations for the first part of the Literature and Ideas requirement (80-90% of students in Honors do Great Books). Also, Honors classes are not just those with Honors in the title. Some of the large introductory courses have discussion sections specifically for Honors students, and I believe those count. Pretty much any 300+ level class taken a freshmen or 400+ level class taken as a sophomore qualifies as an Honors class. Lastly, it's possible to do an "Honors conversion", where you petition the Honors board to count a regular class as an Honors class if you arrange to do additional work with the professor.
