I am a direct admit to Kelly and the Honors College and I am not sure where I should live. I want to be around people who get their work done and also go out and still have a good time. I also want to be able to sleep at night if I decide to not go out on some nights. I have heard that the Kelly LLC has a good social scene, but I have heard nothing about the honors living. Any suggestions?
@aStew19 Sorry to say, I won’t be much help in answering your question. I just wanted to flag for you, in the event you aren’t aware, that there will be significant change in IU housing next year. With the closure of some dorms for mold remediation, the KLLC has been relocated. And some of the closed dorms were previously among the most popular. So, I suspect the dynamic for each dorm my not be as predictable as in the past, as the student population could be distributed quite differently than in prior years. Presumably, however, the KLLC and honors living opportunities will continue to attract similar students as in the past, regardless of location…so maybe these changes won’t impact those environments as much. Best of luck.
The KLLC is good because it’s easy to make friends. You’ll automatically have something in common with everyone and you’ll see a lot of the people from the KLLC in your classes. Beyond that, you’d probably be fine in any dorm. I don’t know much about honors housing.
IMO it depends what kind of Honors student you are. My kid got Honors acceptance based on his numbers. But he quickly realized he didn’t fit in with many of the Honors kids. Kid is smart, but plays the “dumb jock.” The Honors kids tended to be high achievers in academic areas. Any dorm you choose will have a mix of partiers and studiers. Although Honors may trend towards the study aspect.
Congrats on qualifying for both! Sounds like you will have no trouble wherever you live finding the experiences you seek. Find out where Honors will be next year. KLLC will be in Eigenmann. An older mid low range price tier tower. The windows don’t open above the 3 rd floor if that’s an issue for you. If Honors is going to be in Teter in one of the two buildings currently closed for updates that are coming back on line, those will have updates and be centrally located but there have been some discussions on other social media about mold questions. There are 5 buildings to the Teter quad and the other 3 currently housing students have serious mold issues with rooms that have been closed off as a result. So, if you have any underlying health issues, respiratory, allergy, immuno-compromised issues, mold in a dorm can be a critical issue for you. There should be records available that would verify if the Teter buildings coming back on line were ever tested by an outside professional company for mold if that’s a concern of yours. We are one of the mold impacted families so that is why I mention this so you are not caught unawares of potential issues.
