Has anyone that wrote the essay heard from honors? I submitted the essay in mid January and haven't heard yet. Do they tell you if you don't get in or do you just never get a response?

My son just received his acceptance yesterday and wrote his essay about the same time you did.

We went to an Honors Program presentation last Saturday. They told us that there are applications are put in three groups; admits are sent a letter, not admits are sent a letter and deferrals are put in a hold pile. If you are really curious I would just call the Honors office.

I must be in the deferral pile. I know a few people who have gotten denied. I sent mine back in Dec.

SBDad, (or Mom) did the honors presentation mention what happens with housing requests if the student is not yet admitted to honors? My D has not yet done her essay, and I think housing apps come out Mar 15, so if she is not in honors at that time, I was wondering what happens... does the app get considered as if she does not have honors priority, or do they save them up until all that is done? Thanks, fredmar

It was my understanding that she will not be considered for South Quad honors housing until she has been accepted to the honors program.

The presentor made it very clear that it was critical to do the essay in order to get admitted. That's not to say that some - like Shipman scholars - won't be admitted without an essay. But it is critical for most everyone else.

She also said honors housing was tight and got filled up quickly last year. So if your D is interested, I would strongly encourage her to get her essay in ASAP.

Thanks, SBDad. That is what I thought, but convincing my very stubborn daughter of this, has been a problem. I guess she'll see for herself when we go to Campus Day and she gets the news directly. She has it all planned out that she'll be in honors, but just skipped the part about the essay. I think she hoped she would get away without writing it, but that seems unlikely at this point.

Yes, make sure she goes to Honors Program presentation in the afternoon.

Have fun!

A friend of mine and I were both accepted into the honor's college without writing an essay. She got her notice a few weeks ago, I received mine two days ago.

Neither of us have any special stats so it is very possible to be accepted without writing that essay. Hope this helps somebody.

I imagine you do have to have some kind of pretty special stats. This is considering that my 32 on the ACT is just average for honors. And something like 1/11 students gets into honors? I did the essay, but it wasn't really that great at all. Ick. I'm still just waiting and hoping, but it hasn't even been a month, and in the e-mail the send they say that it can take one to two.

PyroManiac,

I think you underestimate your stats. 35 ACT as a sophomore is pretty special at Michigan.

My advice (and that of Honors adminstration) - write the essay.

Yes, 35 ACT is extremely good.

Awheio, I've got a 32 on my ACT and my honors essay was decent but nothing too spectacular. I'm still waiting. I sent the email with the essay on Dec 24th, I think. So I'll probably find out eventually whether I'm in or not.

Thanks, I meant more that I do not have anything outstanding in terms of extracurriculars.

Either way, I hope everybody here gets in. Good luck guys.

what is the "safe" gpa and sat score for honors?
i think im around 1450/2170 with a 3.8 gpa.

im about to submit my honors essay. is it too late at this point or do i still have a chance?

Question: If we end up not getting into the Honors program, can we still elect to take honors classes?

I received my invitation today and is it too late to submit my essay to them next week? Anyway I am an international student so any chance for me to get in? I've heard that there were only 10 international students last year so do i still have a chance since it's already March and it's rolling system admits people who applied for it early?

My daughter got the honors application one week, did nothing, then received an acceptance letter the next week. So it is possible to get in without writing the essay (the first letter said that 30% get in without submitting it)

It is possible, but it appears your daughter was a 2400 SAT, already accepted at Harvard. I think unless you're in that stratosphere that you do the essay just to be sure (according the Honors Program rep on Campus Day).

I got into michigan honors program today and i submitted the honors essay february 4th,

Thank you, darkneal88. Hopefully that means I could have a decision coming relatively soon... I assume I was deferred. What were your stats?
