Hopeful Transfer

Hi!

I'm a current first-year at Swarthmore College and want to transfer to Smith basically because I have found absolutely no community here, socially or academically. I am worried, however, that I will not be accepted or that my credits will not transfer because everyone's first semester at Swarthmore is all pass/fail. As in, I have no grades to show. I will have one strong professor recommendation, and my high school transcript is very strong, however. I was told that Smith was a safety school for me when I applied to colleges the first time (I would've applied there had I not been accepted ED to Swat). Anyway, does anyone know what Smith's policy is on pass/fail credit?

Credit transfers are sort of screwy at Smith, there isn't a whole lot you can do except apply. If you get accepted your letter will come with a tentative credit evaluation. As far as I know there's no hard and fast policy that says pass/fail credit is automatically rejected, but I would probably call or email the registrar's office and find out for sure if that's a make or break issue for you.

If it helps, you're probably not the first transfer from Swarthmore admissions has seen, so they will be familiar with the grading policy and other issues.
