Hopkins Runs Over Princeton (what else is new)

Anyone else go to the game? The officials were outrageously biased but we still won. The Jays put the hurt on a couple of kids, at one point a Hopkins player broke his stick over a Princeton helmet. Hell yea!

Hopkins Lax, in terms of the spirit, fans etc, is like a mini version of an OSU football game. They brought their own band, students ran around the stadium painted blue and wearing just shorts in the freezing weather, it was great. Any students on the fence about Hopkins because of the school spirit should go to a game. Granted its only like 6000 people there (a record for Princeton's field), its still worth going. Fans are die hard and there were more blue shirts than orange ones despite being at Princeton.

Here's to 5 years in a row of National Championships ahead of us!

WE WANT MORE!!!

As the instigator in the late '70s of the "game banana" custom at lax games, I have to wholeheartedly agree. A Hopkins lacrosse game is beyond exciting, and I know a rabid contingent of alums who attend pretty much every game, regardless of where, some 30 years later. Do not miss it. (PS: if properly encouraged, I will provide the words to "To Win", the song the band plays after each Blue Jay goal. Stick 'em, Jays!)

Yea i noticed a lot of alumn there from back in the day. Both Princeton and Johns Hopkins had many older fans proudly dawning "class of " gear. As is tradition with the elite NE schools, being an alumn means a lot, means community (although id imagine a lot of schools have that community) not just with fellow alumns, but alumns of peer Universities. Despite the obvious diehard nature of the respective teams' fan base, many of the older alumni from Hopkins knew those from Princeton not just eachother. On top of that, the parents all had an obvious sense of community, and it was a great thing to see. My hope is that next year I will find the same sense of community pervasive throughout Homewood not just on the Field. I think if people saw these games, the stigma of the cold, elite research university, would fade and people would appreciate Hopkins more for all the good.

andrew thats awesome that you went to the game. how did you get tix? i might try and go to either the uva or umd game.

You can buy the tickets online either through Hopkins or the opposing team (UVA or UMD's athletic websites should have them). We picked them up at the field when we got there.

I definately recommend going, my enthusiasm for going to Hopkins got another boost having been. Id imagine both games would be really good, i know there was a lot of rivalry going on at this game as well.

Enjoy!

The Hopkins-Maryland lax game is the traditional "big rivalry" game, although in recent years some other pretty powerful rivalries have emerged also. UMd and UVA should both be good games, as will Navy and Syracuse (but that's at Syracuse this year). The Blue Jays entered the season #1 in the coaches' poll, we're hoping for a good year. Go if you can, yarrr03!

i live in Syracuse, haha, i should go to the Blue Jays vs Orangemen game, and don some JHU gear and have everyone sneer at me... awesome!

Anyone going to the UVA game, lemme know - I live in Charlottesville!

Hey mootmom...id definately imagine the maryland game would be fun, but its not the CP campus its the BC team, which i think is not as good. Nonetheless, any local teams are probably worth watching. Both the UVA game and the 'Cuse games should be very close, hopefully we'll win them all! Go Jays!

Yes, abrandel05, UMBC is on March 8th, but the "big" Maryland game is on April 15th (at College Park). Trust me, a season would not go by without a Maryland game (meaning College Park). This year's season schedule and a pre-Princeton look at the team is here on the JHU Gazette site: http://www.jhu.edu/~gazette/2005/28feb05/28jays.html

And kams1086, if you wear JHU gear to the 'Cuse game, just look for the band and the Banana Boosters and sit near them: they will be there, and you will have comrades in arms! Cheer for me, y'all, I live in CA and can't attend the games, waaah!
