Horrible GPA, High SAT/ACT scores. Community College?

So I have really bad grades, but somewhat high SAT/ACT scores. I'm thinking of going to community college first, to get my basics out of the way and to also have a better chance of transferring to the school that I want.Any advice?

Exactly how bad are your grades and how strong is your SAT? I don’t think you should resort to Community College if you a 3.3+ GPA.

I’m with @preamble1776. Horrible could be 3.5 or 1.8. What exactly is your GPA?

I consider “somewhat high” to be 1950+

My GPA is a 2.5 and my SAT is 2050.

Any advanced/ AP classes?
Upward trend?
What grade are you in?

AP World History (10th)
AP US History (11th)
Currently:
AP Lit & Comp
AP Bio
AP Government
AP Macroeconomics

I’m in 12th grade, and senior year is going to be my upward trend.

well i wouldn’t apply early anywhere. and you have a good shot at less selective schools, especially if you have ECs

Some schools do take weighted GPA. The only school I can think of that takes weighted off the top of my head is, The University of Alabama at Huntsville. If your weighted GPA is in the 3.00+ range you’d actually qualify for some scholarships. If you plan on going into engineering UAH would actually be a pretty good choice.

Link to their scholarships for out of state: [UAH - Financial Aid - Entering Freshmen - Non-Residents Merit Awards](http://www.uah.edu/financial-aid/aid/scholarships/new-freshmen/non-residents-merit-awards)

I’m sure some other schools take into account weighted gpa as well, although there probably aren’t many. With your SAT score I’m sure you’ll at least be accepted into a couple of decent colleges regardless.
