can someone recommend a good hotel (reasonable price, not high price) to stay and one can walk to the campus? thanks!

Try the Irving House, three blocks from Memorial Hall.

I’ve stayed at the Irving House. I liked the Sheraton Commander better, which is, I guess, on the other side of the campus, but still within easy walking distance. Nice accommodations, best bed so far of the three Harvard hotels at which I’ve stayed. Apparently, I’m a member of the Starwood Club, and thus I received a very nice breakfast at no charge each morning. Also, if I recall correctly, it was a little cheaper (but not cheap!).

I’ve also stayed at the Inn at Harvard. More expensive than either the Irving House or the Sheraton. Very nice facility, very attractive, though the mattress on the bed wasn’t great. Attractive, open lounge/restaurant but very expensive with automatic 20% gratuity.

All in all, I’ve found that the hotels that are walkable to campus just aren’t cheap.

My mom has visited twice and she always stays at the Harvard Square Hotel. It’s right next to campus and very affordable, but I think it fills quickly.
