So I got accepted as a transfer for this Fall 2017 at Moody and have also applied for housing a while back. I figured I won’t get any offers until I officially get in (since that makes a lot more sense), but it’s been a few weeks since my acceptance and every time I check Mystatus it just says “Application Complete” and nothing else. Maybe I’m being a bit impatient but I’m also somewhat paranoid I won’t have anywhere to live by the time the semester rolls
If anyone has any experience/advise with this stuff I would really appreciate it. Thank you!!
You mention you were accepted but did you pay your enrollment fee? I am trying to recall how it worked with my son for his 2016/2017 housing process and I believe he applied, he submitted housing application with application fee, he was accepted into his major, he accepted enrollment and paid the fee and then he was offered a housing contract and a few days later he had to pay the housing deposit and sign the contract.
My daughter transferred into Moody last year. She also applied for housing when she submitted her application. The housing office told us that the first transfer was in line behind hundreds of freshman who would not get housing. Transfers are placed after all freshmen. Unless they have changed their process this year, I can’t imagine transfers getting on campus housing. However, if you call the housing office, they will be realistic with you about your chances.
Dobie is a private dorm basically almost on campus at 21st and gudalupe. My son stays there. You might look into it due to the great location just in case.
Thank you so much for the responses! I think I’ll start looking into some other options since it might be a case of not having space for transfer students (
Whoops, missed the part about being a TRANSFER student. I have no clue about how that process works. Dobie and Castilian are 2 very close affordable off campus dorms. University Towers is further but I believe also affordable. These are all older dorms that were around back when I was in college. They used to be considered pricey back in my day but when we looked at Dobie when my son was a high school senior, I was surprised Dobie was less than Jester if you compare what they offered. Seems that there are newer off campus dorms that are preferred and many students, like my son, wanted to be on campus instead.
@CorpusChristi thank you for the suggestion! (also thank you to @parentof3kids ) It looks like an idea location for me. I was wondering if your son has mentioned any pros/cons of living there specifically?
@fespj I think location is the main positive thing for him. A target store cvs and Starbucks are going to be open in the basement by fall so they say. The building has maintenance issues and is dated. He mainly eats out so i am not sure how good the food is but i imagine its ok. My daughter will be living on campus in the fall but he will be in Dobie.
@fespj My transfer daughter lived at Dobie this year (in fact, CorpusChristi and I have shared info through the year!). It is a decent, affordable place to live. Just take this advice…don’t take ANYTHING for a verbal contract - get anything important in writing. Also, know this…the type of room plan you sign a contract for is not guaranteed what you will get. My daughter was assigned to another floor plan other than what we signed a contract for because they oversold. They can do that (it’s in the lease) and you don’t have much say. Other than that, my daughter had a great year. Not because of Dobie, but nothing at Dobie was a problem. There were some noisy neighbors, she never met her RA, and the food was not to her liking, but I don’t see that as anything she might not experience in a dorm. The location is awesome! And there is a Target going in there - so yay! Good luck!
