I will be freshman for fall 2013 quarter. I am confused about where to live.

apartments are cheap and I will get privacy. However, I have heard that it is a good experience to live in a dorm because you make many friends there.

where to live? dorm or apartment near campus like vista del campo? Which is more clean - dorms or apartments? If i live in apartment then i would need a transportation. how is uci transportation system?

please share your experience from dorms and apartments. Thanks!!!

I’m going to be a freshman too, I’m trying to decide between Mesa Court and Campus Village apartments basically because of the reasons you said. Also, I’ve heard that theres a free shuttle bus for the living areas that are farther away

I’m going to be a freshmen at uci too, I am also debating between Mesa court and campus village apartments. The apartments are so much cheaper but I’m worried that meeting people would be a challenge there

Ya I know, I don’t want to miss out on freshman activities by staying in the apartments, but they are so much cheaper. I change my mind so often on whether I prefer the apartments or the residence halls. I wish someone would just tell me what to do.

But I chose Mesa Court because there is a multipurpose room, decent facilities, study room, and a pretty green looking environment outside… and it is a good way to be social with others if you live in the dorms :P

You don’t have to agree, but it depends on what you are looking for :)

There should be shuttle buses on campus, so I think the only transportation you will need is a bicycle and make new friends so you can get a free ride/drive a free car :D

During my first year at UCI, I decided to live in the residence halls because I thought it would be a good choice for me because I didn’t know anybody who was coming here. I lived in a great hall and met some of my closest friends there, and found out about some opportunities that I still take advantage of today. You have to bring your own pillows and blankets, but the mattress & general furniture is provided. Also, the residence halls are cleaned for you, you only have to clean your own room. In an apartment, you are responsible for all of your own cleaning. I’d recommend the residence halls, especially Mesa Court because it is beautiful and more spread out that Middle Earth.
