I’m just curious as to which hall to choose. I am an incoming engineering major but I don’t necessarily have to live with people who are the same major as me. Ideally, I want to live in a double in a suite. There are a few places I can choose from that fit this criteria but which ones are better?

Some points I’m taking into consideration:
bathroom privacy
convenience of location
price
how old the facilities are
are kitchens and laundry machines, etc available

Please share experience in dorms and the food in and around campus. Maybe it’ll help me decide what meal plan too.

If you really want a private bathroom then you should request HoJo - you have a reasonable chance to get a triple w/ private bath. The location is convenient for everyone except CGS, CFA and SHA students. The room costs the same as a regular double in warren/west/towers. I don’t know how old it is, it used to be a hotel before they converted it to a dorm. There is a laundry room, but no kitchen. You can’t get an apartment with a kitchen as a freshman.

Hojo is what they call 575 Commonwealth Ave. It used to be a Howard Johnson hotel, therefore called Hojo. The dorm is mostly triples with a few doubles on the 2nd floor and singles on the 7th and 2nd floor. Each room has a private bathroom. It also has A/C, which Towers, Warren, and West do not.

Thank you for answering my question… really appreciate it. :)

I have a few more that I’ll present to you in time, because besides whats on the BU site, I know nothing about housing.
Would you say that HoJo is the best place to live as a freshman on campus, in terms of proximity to schools, bathrooms, and noise levels?

samsung, the proximity to classes is pretty good, and if quiet & privacy is what you’re looking for, then HoJo is the right place for you. But don’t expect the typical ‘freshman experience’ and a friendly socializing floor like the ones in warren, west, or towers.

Hojo is extremely quiet. The walls are pretty thick since it used to be a hotel. You can’t really hear much inside your own room. Most people keep to themselves. I agree with Hanita that it’s not a Freshmen experience. Since Hojo is mostly upperclassmen with a couple of Freshmen, most people already have their circle of friends. It’s not impossible to friend people there, but you have to go out of your way to befriend them because for the most part all you get is pleasant smalltalk in the elevators. But talking about the elevators is a good way to get someone to talk. Just complain they’re slow or something. :D

If you’re looking for the closest dorm to CAS, that would be Warren. It’s across the street. But Towers and Hojo are about a block away. That seems like a lot but it’s really just a 10 minute walk. The bathrooms are really nice. They’re really clean when you move in, but maintenance is up to you. If you ever have problems with plumbing or your room in general, the Residence Office is pretty quick about fixing it.
