Housing application?

I’m filling out the housing application, and I’m wondering how I should rank my preferred room types. I was accepted to the LSA Honors Program, so I think that I’m guaranteed South Quad housing. I would prefer a double room, but I’m not sure if a single or triple room should be my next choice. If I get a triple room, chances are someone will become the odd one out, but with a single room, I feel like I won’t get that full college experience (plus, it’s significantly more expensive).

So what I guess I’m really asking is that if I rank a double room as my first choice, what are my chances of getting a double room in South Quad (for honors)? Would it be better to rank single or triple as my second choice, or will it not really matter?

If you are in honors you will get South Quad. They say it isn’t guaranteed but everyone has always gotten it if they applied on time. You will almost certainly also get a double if that is your first choice. For second choice just decide what you would prefer, maybe a triple since it is less expensive and you would have the college experience. But expect to get a double. You will love South Quad. Congrats!

@2135ar I’m also going into honors south quad, and since you seem to know a bit about it, do you know anything about substance free housing? I don’t drink/do drugs, but I don’t necessarily care if others do it, as long as they aren’t puking all over, etc (and the reason I’m considering substance-free is because I would prefer to have a roommate who is in the same boat as I am and not a huge partier in that sense)… Is substance free much different from regular non-smoking rooms? Would selecting substance-free mean I possibly won’t get a room on south quad?
Does anyone else know about this?

My son just finished his freshman year in honors so I do know a bit about that program. However, I don’t know anything about substance free or whether it is available in South Quad. My son’s hall had serious students. There was of course some partying but many of his friends on his hall didn’t drink. If you e-mail housing or honors they are pretty responsive and would let you know if there is substance free housing in South Quad honors. Frankly, I don’t think it is really necessary to choose substance free unless it is very important to you. You will find many friends who don’t drink or take drugs. By the way, the whole campus is smoke free. They do ask if you smoke I believe but all rooms are non-smoking.
