housing assignments

So housing assignments come out tomorrow. Does anyone know where we go to find out our assignments? Can you post a link?

Thanks!

At CI they gave this cite - [Living @ GW - The George Washington University](http://living.gwu.edu). They also said not to rely on facebook but to use their cite bc some people think its fun to give out wrong info. You also can’t swap with anyone on facebook bc you need administration approval about three weeks into the fall. Hope this helps, and maybe I’ll see you in the fall!

post if you get what you want good luck!

Has anyone found out about their housing arrangements? I checked my GW email account, as well as the site where I applied for housing, and found nothing. Am I checking the right places?

they send you an email on your gwmail account

or go to the link posted above, log in, and click on the tab bookings on the left side

Im in a quad in Thurston and I didn’t even have it on my list of dorms! My first choice was Potomac which I knew was a stretch bc I’m not ED but come on!!!

Almost half the freshman class ends up in Thurston, so the odds are that whatever dorms you preferenced you’d end up in Thurston, especially if you’re RD. S survived his year in Thurston, even though he’s quiet and not a big partier…and he did well academically too.

You can always try room swap, but I’m not sure how it works or how many students actually successfully swap.

Room swap is a long drawn out option, but if I get out of Thurston it will be worth it- no offense to Thurston roomers, but it just isn’t me. If anyone’s interested, I’m in a second floor quad (girls) and I would love to hear from you to swap.

waves- my D said to tellyou that people on the facebook group are clamoring to switch out of Thurston so you should have no problem switching out. hope this helps

sorry people who want to switch INTO Thurston

Downtoearth - I was able to switch out of Thurston and moved into a regular double in another co-ed dorm. I think I did the right thing for me and the girl who took my place thinks she did the right thing for her. Thats the great thing about college…

downtoearth- Unless you have actually LIVED in Thurston, you (or your D) should refrain from making such negative comments. Unfortunately, you do not know what you are talking about!! (see my post on Thurston dorm thread) Your remark is totally unecessary and ruins it for GW freshman that are excited about their dorm choice.

I did not mean it as deragatory, I meant there were a number of people who were wanting to change based on the facebook, and thats what waves wanted to do. My D is not saying anything bad either wanted a quieter dorm for her own reasons, will be there to visit her friends, if you may note I neve said anything bad at all. was just trying to help waves, each dorm works for different people.

The students who are “clamoring to switch out of Thurston” may ultimately come to regret their decisions. Let’s hope not for your D downtoearth. Best of Luck to All, See ya in August!!

you sound like a jerk

Listen, MsBC, this would be downtoearth’s daughter speaking. Neither my mother nor I made any derogatory comments about Thurston. It is a fine dorm. I stayed there during CI and enjoyed my time there. Waveswatcher, however, does not want to live there next year, for whatever reason(s). My mother told me about his/her posting their disappointment at being placed in said dorm, so I told her to inform Waveswatcher that there are many students on the George Washington University Class of 2013 Facebook group who are desperately trying to switch into Thurston. This is not a judgment, but rather a fact. I told her to pass this information along, as it could potentially be an avenue for Waveswatcher to pursue in order to get placed into another dorm. In my case, I never wanted to be placed in Thurston. I require a quieter study area than a dorm with so many students in it. I would have difficulty focusing otherwise. Again, not a judgment, just a statement of fact that has to do with my individual preferences. I am also in the Honors program, and therefore wanted to live in the Honors housing. Thurston is not the be all and end all. I am happy about my living situation for next year, and do not need nor want your condescending remarks in regards to my decision to not live in Thurston.

I don’t think msbc was trying to be condescending. It’s just that Thurston often gets a really bad rap on these boards, and much of it is undeserved. I think the poster’s point was that it’s not the end of the world if you get put in Thurston; contrary to many people’s perception, you can study and live there even if you aren’t a huge partier. However, if you were successful switching into another dorm, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that either.

I’m sorry, but the comment, “you sound like a jerk” just validated my point… a totally unecessary remark.
Thank you GWSenior you are absolutely correct. I was trying to communicate a different point of view re:Thurston from someone who just spent 8 months living there. This residence seems to always get a bashing, mostly from those who have not experienced the positive aspects of living there with so many others who ARE interested in succeeding academically and socially. It is not just filled with smokers, drunks and others who have no regard for privacy. A former Thurston resident shared this info with me when I was trying to decide dorm choices, and I’m so thankful that she did. Obviously, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and choices and I will agree with the poster, it is certainly “not the be all and end all”, just another great place to live at GW. Now let’s move on!

My question is, how can I arrange furniture after debunking in a very small quad in Thurston.
