Uh… is that even possible? I thought dorming was for students only?

Edit: I have nothing against married folks. It just doesn’t make sense to allow someone who doesn’t attend UCLA to take up a dorm spot.

There are special facilities for students with families (married, domestic partnership, with kids)

Housing live chat starting in 45 minutes! 12 to 4 pm

Does UCLA have an online program where you can find possible roommates or a program that does roommate matching?

UCM had this thing where you could pick a dorm, the room, and the bed you wanted. It showed you how many people were in that room and who already picked that room and which bed (think I tried to do triple occupancy). I’m sure UCLA has something similar.

I also did answer some questionnaires to find people who were similar to me. But I remember it being fairly useless since no one put more than like “420 friendly thx” and maybe their major. Assuming the system is similar, I’d say it’d be better to find roommates outside this program.

It says the live chat is closed. Idk why

I just went and talked to the person there. Well, looks like I’m living on campus.

I just got on. I asked about how soon I should SIR to get transfer themed housing and they said
“if some applies today and you apply May 30th and you both put down transfer as the theme you will both have the same opportunity to receive that type of housing”
@onehandedred what did they say to convince you?

“Your grants will lower if you go to an off campus housing.”

They’ll have to rip my 16k out of my cold dead hands after I get mugged by shady looking dudes at the co-op.

welp
okay I am definitely living on campus then. They’re not taking my 23k away from me. I was considering the co-op but when i read “no air-conditioning” I kicked that thought into the sewer. This is socal, I will not survive.

@squashbanana I swear everyone I talked to so far has gotten more than me. I only have one grant at 14k (the other one can be waived tbh). Did you get the cal grant and pell grant and all those stuff?

@onehandedred
scholarship recognition award- $5,295
pell grant- 3,580
cal grant A - 12,192
uc grant to purchase uship- 1,830
This is how they broke it down. I know the last one is optional b/c its insurance, but my insurance currently is a co-op “insurance” and they only cover stuff like emergencies so I want the school’s insurance. My EFC is like 2,000 if that makes a difference. I also available for 2,000 in work study and 8,000 in loans.

oh dear lord.

scholarship recognition award - $14,358

I’m pretty sure that’s just pity money cause my family income is above pell and cal grant. I’m so jealous; it’s not like I’m an only child with well off parents. My brother needs pay for his university too, and he’s going to USC soon so it’s going to an even bigger strain. I better get regents or alumni or I’ll end up with a lot of debt :(.

Oh and my EFC is 8,500. 6 dollars come out of me lmao

Wow! congrats! That’s a big award though! Oh my USC is expensive. I applied there as well but I am leaning more towards LA (although still waiting for cal). Did they give you an estimate for loans or work study? Did they send in all the regents? I am going to apply for the alumni scholarship as well but I heard that they will then take it out of your grant money.

I got work study and loans so far to cover the rest of my 17,000 dollar tuition. Regents results aren’t out yet, I heard late may, early may, mid may, late april, I don’t know.

Is that real? It’s not exactly a scholarship if they tak eout money from you. I guess there are other benefits to it that’s worth considering though.

I am not sure if its true. I saw someone one of the UC transfer forms say it.

In my opinion the dorms are hella expensive, a few of my friends live there… however if you are rich or want to experience the dorm experience once in their life(living in the dorms should be on anyones bucket list) they why not? However there are alternatives… apartments are less expensive ($500-700 shared room) or ($700-1000) private room… if you are willing to move south of Wilshire (1/2 mile south) then you could knock 100 or more off a month…

Everything about housing confuses me. Especially looking at the different rates for the transfer themed dorms and the university apartments. I will be taking my car (since my home is only 45 min away no traffic and I want to visit often), so I hope if I am dorming I have a parking spot.

@onehandedred you said that they told you that your grants would lower if you went with off campus housing, when you applied did you select on or off campus? if you selected off campus I wouldn’t imagine it would change, but if you selected on campus than switched I could understand them lowering the grant.

I got no idea. Where do I check?
