is may 2 also the deadline for housing?? what the heck. i wont even get my private school admission decisions until beginning of april and Cal is pretty late too. thats not a lot of time to decide the next four yrs of ur life.

You are allowed a standalone mini-fridge, and a micro-fridge (rentable), but not a standalone microwave.

Yup May 2nd.

You have to send your statement of intent to register (SIR) by May 1st.

All of us are in that situation; make up your mind.

Thought I'd give this thread a bump with all the recent questions about housing.

ah yes thanks laurak, i know i posted on another thread about dorms but, it seems like u guys failed to mention anything about the Sprouls Hall. is this hall offered to incoming freshmen?

i looked on the residential community map and it just seems like Sprouls is conveniently located and close to many "amenities." if it's available to freshmen i would probably choose it...

so, if i wanted a lively dorm room in the halls with close access to many ameneties like the computer labs and food, which hall should i choose?

Are the res halls noisy, is it possible to study or sleep in your room?when do most students sleep in the rez halls?

Kentmoney,

Sproul is your best bet.

Kent,

Sproul if you are feeling especially social and into the whole communal living bit-- Sunset Village if you are more into privacy and private bathrooms.

If a freshman could pick any hall, suite, or plaza, which one should this person choose? Also, which would be the best in each category? Which style of living would be best for a freshman and for studying (and socializing)? This is really important cuz i think ill get priority housing since im a regents scholar so i might actually get my first choice :)

You'll get your first choice out of hall, de neve, or plaza, but either way, you won't be able to pick the specific hall or location.

I've heard that you can get refund (check from UCLA) monthly for not living on campus. Can any current student confirm this?

^ definitely not true - haha where did you hear that?

As a 21 yr old transfer student, would suites be preferable to residential halls ? I like the thought of being in the halls as far as meeting more people but don't want to feel out of place if they're occupied only by freshmen...

DADA,

i think there's also a transfer floor in hedrick hall. but it seems like most live in suites or go off-campus to apartments.

Are persons who stay in the dorms such as the Plazzas, Suites, or Halls allowed to bring their own mattress? I don't like the idea of using someone eles's matress. Are the mattresses supplied by UCLA of good quality (i.e. are they frim or soft). Please advise.

They're very frim. In fact, they're the frimest mattresses I've ever slept on.

Yes, you have to use them. Get over your mattress complex ASAP, because if they catch you using another matress, you'll be expelled from school.

Nah, I brought my own on more than one occasion. However, that got cumbersome, and I quickly decided to just go the egg crate mattress cover route out of sheer laziness.

Thank you UCLAri for responding. When you did bring your own mattress, where did you store the one that UCLA supplied to you?

I didn't. I just tossed mine on top and used the other one as a box spring of sorts.

Good to know, I might try that until I too get too lazy......which will probably occur after the first quarter.
