Is there any chance of going on campus as a junior transfer, is off campus better?

I have never really lived by myself before, I think on campus for me would be a good, on the other hand the idea of living with a bunch of freshmen is not appealing.

Is rent typically a lot cheaper off campus? with about other expenses such as transportation/food?

Transfers don't get on campus housing. Most close apartments have shuttles to UCSD every 10 or 15 minutes, I think they're free if your a student.

thetrumpet070 - "Transfers don't get on campus housing" thanks for the infor

when i check the Housing Application at myapplication.ucsd.edu, i got the message "New transfer students may fill out a Housing Waitlist application on the Undergraduate Housing Waitlist website starting June 2, 2008 at 8 a.m. The Commuter Student Services Office also offers help with searching for off campus housing options" does it mean anything?

flyingsquirrel - if you had been admitted, what can you see in Housing Application section, please let me know, thanks

Not true... I had gone through the UCSD website, and I found out that if you really want to live on campus (for transfer), you have a chance by filling out a waitlist form (I believe the starting date to fill out the form is 2nd June). But of course, it is not guarantte.

For the cost, of course off campus will be cheap a lot. Other than money factor, I, myself prefer living on campus. The reason is because thats University life.

I haven't looked into the Housing Application site that much, but I've talked with a LOT of people at the UCSD forum and they've all said that transfers don't get on campus housing. I think you can apply for it on June 2nd, but there really is no shot of getting it. They're building housing for transfer students right now, I think it's called "The Village at Torrey Pines" or something like that, but it won't be done until fall '09. I'm pretty sure UCSD offers a service finding you an apartment and matching you up with roommates if you need them.

hey, i transferred to UCSD this year ( fall 07),
just forget about on campus housing, I mean fill out the app for it, but forget it anyways.
For off campus, look on the internet.
Now here are your options:
you can look on craigslist which means you will find cheaper housing in nearby cities, maybe with college kids, maybe not
ex: my friend who transferred at the same time as me used craigslist and got into a housing place for 450+ utilities a month, in clairmont mesa, 5 to 10 min. drive to school
( downside is you have to pay a huge amout for a parking permit and spaces are really hard to find on campus)
other downsides are that you might find some crazy ass places on craigslist,
Use facebook also, thats what I did, use your new UCSD email to get into the UCSD network and check their marketplace, this way youll probably get housing with UCSD students and it will be near school. The prices are kinda high in La jolla though. I pay 683 + utilities, i pay 780 a month pretty much here, but I live on a UCSD shuttle route and the shuttles are pretty damn good. So ya use facebook
and also depending on where you live, I know UCSD offers a transfer housing thing before your actual orientation during the summer, which is kinda orientation style for kids to get together and see if you can make friends and get a place together. hit me up if you need help

u WILL NOT get on campus housing, i promise you that, waitlist all you wait i did it freshmen year here and i didn't get it, they don't even give it to winter admits, they won't give it to transfers, we're very short of housing

I think he didn't get it because he was a winter admit. AFAIK, SD offers guaranteed housing for its freshmen. Plus, there are on-campus apartments for sophomores. They don't kick you off campus till junior year.

so i guess no on campus housing for transfers, at least until they finish the construction on that new building next year, which i think is off campus, not sure though.

There is indeed a housing tool, but I have not submitted by SIR, I'm not 100% sure I want to transfer this year to UCSD or stay another year at my CC. So in this way I can't exactly get my email yet...

And all this would be done at orientation? I have a facebook, pm sent, I want to meet many friends, I don't want to go in being a stranger to everyone!
