Housing at Vandy

I have heard from friends that there are certain halls that are more popular than others. Is there truth to this rumor?

Also from current students only, please list the dorms you feel are in the best condition.

hemingway is definitely the best in kissam. we have the only vending machines ping pong table and piano all in the lobby in all kissam quad ( we did have the only pool table before they took it away). It's also close to the outside world (located on the corner of 21 ave and west end avenue where a lot of the food restaurants are located. THis is where i live currently. btw, you can't pick dorms freshman year.

From what I have heard it is a lottery system. Is this not the case?
If dorm rooms are picked for you, can you at lease request a double or single if wanted?

The most popular freshmen dorms are in Branscomb Quad. Next is Vanderbilt Hall and Barnard Hall. Students who really want a single pick Kissam Quad.

Branscomb Quad is all doubles, I think. Vanderbilt and Barnard are mostly doubles with a few single rooms. Kissam Quad is all singles.

yes, you can request a double or single room. you can't request where you want to live freshman year.

If you request a double, you will be sent roommate contact information during the summertime so you can slightly get to know the person before you arrive on campus and coordinate some dorm items..

I have heard that each dorm hall has its own qualities. I have heard that Branscomb is the the craziest and wildest while Kissam Quad is the quietest, and Barnard is in between. Is this true? Thanks.

this is pretty much true. however, quite is a relative term. there are still people coming home drunk every so often who make a racket, people playing bball in hallways at 3 am, etc.

Yeah, for the most part that would be true. But it REALLY depends on the people who live on your floor. I live in Hemingway Hall on the 3rd floor and it is crazy. There isn't ever a dull moment.
