I have a slight dilemma after receiving my housing assignment for this coming fall. First of all, I am an incoming transfer student. I had requested a single room due to some severe ADD that makes it very difficult for me to study with others in the room. I had initially been assigned to the transfer center (which was my first choice), but I was placed in a double room for some reason. I notified the housing office that they had failed to grant my request to be placed in a single room. They just notified me that they would be able to place me in the Becker House in a single room due to my disability. However, they also told me that this was essentially my only option if I want a single room, as there are no singles left in the transfer center. My question is for anyone who knows anything about the Becker House, particularly from a transfers point of view. I know very little about Becker, other than the fact that it is the newest of the residential initiative houses, and is by all accounts a pretty nice place to live. I still have some serious concerns though.

How will Becker be for transfers? I worry that it might not be as good of a situation for a transfer compared to being in the Transfer Center where everyone is in the same awkward boat as me. I know that the atmosphere isnt going to be the same as the Transfer Center, but do you think it would be worth it for me to take the double in the TC, even if it put me in a somewhat of a bad place academically speaking (being in a double). Any additional information or experiences with Becker would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone in advance.

Stay in Becker. There will be other transfers there, they can't fit all of the transfers in the transfer center. The rooms in the transfer center are tiny, and not conducive for your needs with regard to your ADD. You are going to love Becker... you won't regret it for a moment.

Go with Becker. Remember that Becker is on West Campus. West Campus houses only upperclassmen, so you're going to be living with small groups or individual kids who will want to branch out and meet new people again.

As someone who lived in the TC last year and opted for Becker this year...it is probably not AS social, but there will be transfers living there and from what I've seen they do a lot of activities as a house so there's plenty of opportunity to meet people. Also, chances are you'll be placed in an orientation group with other transfers, some of whom probably live in the TC.

I think that it's the best idea for you; there's plenty of time to be social, but it's nice to be able to go back to your own room and not have to wonder who's going to be in there when.

they reserve some rooms/suites in both of the new houses for transfers... when my friends and i were getting a suite, they had to move us around because of that...

Well thanks again everyone, I decided to take the advice of the majority and stay in Becker. I don't suppose anyone has a picture of a single dorm room in Becker? I have been unable to find one on the classof site or elsewhere.
