single in becker

so i just received my housing assignment: single in becker

does anyone know what the singles in becker are like? ive heard jokes they are more like closets. ive tried searching for pictures or more info but nothing really comes up

also, i applied to be placed with a specific roommate, but we didn't end up together or even in the same house. they even put her with someone who way worse a match. are the housing assignments done by computer? can they be changed?

edit: oh and does 4##A mean im on the 4th floor?

the housing system is pretty dumb. i signed up for single, quiet to the max, no music, sleep early, etc. they put me in Donlon in a double . . .

but single in becker is awesome mann. anyone of the new houses you should be happy with.

I’ll also be in a single in Becker (really excited!)…what do the rooms come with? Is there AC? What about a full-length mirror?

i think becker has ac, not sure about mirrors though. i wish there were pics of the rooms!

AC. man I’d kill for that
I hope Bethe has it too…

becker’s actually nice. you’re in a suite if it says A, which means you have the first room in the suite. there’s a mirror in the suite. and yeah, becker’s the only one with AC, which is wonderful.

and i may have pictures of the rooms lol

What are the suites like? I think someone told you share a sink or something?

You share an entire bathroom and common area.

oh, so there’s no like communal bathrooms on the floor or anything? that’s great!

You only share a bathroom if you’re in a suite. Otherwise, hallway singles are grouped together around a communal bathroom. (Right?)

ironicallyunsure, if you have pics of Becker rooms and could upload them, that’d be awesome! :)

Correct, countryangel926

i’m in becker in a single right now for the summer, i was pretty pleased when i moved in

i think you are lucky. becker is one of the newest dorms on campus, i haven’t been to other dorms but i hear becker is one of the nicest too

the room is very spacious, high ceilings, great AC, i personally have a nice view of ithaca from my 3rd floor window

standards: a xl twin, a desk, a dresser, a closet, wall light, table lamp
there’s an elevator which is pretty decent, so being on the 4th floor shouldn’t be terrible

cons: no mirror…i was really upset at first but now i’m over it
like I said, the AC works very well, so prepare to freeze in your dorm room for the first few weeks.

other things: i love the suite arrangement. there is a common area with two couches and a table. there are 3 singles and 1 double in a suite. (5 people total) if you are not in a suite, there is a common bathroom for your floor

the bathroom is great too. there are two sinks, a toilet, cubibles for your stuff (toothbrush, hair stuff, etc, very convenient), and a huge shower with very hot water and great pressure

hope i helped!

@angelfish13: thanks so much, this is great info!! exactly what i was looking for :)

oh so im pretty sure ill need a bedside table, is there enough room to move the dresser next to my bed so i can use that as the bedside table? or should i buy something at a place like target?

my opinion of the new west campus singles is that you should not buy any extra furniture…they are very small indeed. putting a desk or dresser by the bed would work just fine.

also, this is a strange question regarding Becker that I have had for months: where is the regular sized public bathroom? like the one that’s in the hallway to the right in Flora Rose, or downstairs by common room in Keeton, or right outside the dining hall in Bethe. I have searched high and low on multiple occasions to no avail…

The singles in Becker have mirrors. The singles within suites in Becker do not–you have to use the common room one (just to clarify).

I had a single in Becker for two years (one off the main hallway, one within a suite) and I had a small bookcase in my room both years. Also, I used my dresser as a night table (alarm clock and reading lamp and whatnot) and it worked great.

The large public bathroom in Becker is in the basement on the north side, right across from the computer lab. If you’re facing the north elevator, there is a hallway just to the left of it that leads to a staircase. On the left side, there is a computer lab and three study rooms. On the right, there are two public bathrooms and a water fountain. It’s tricky to find if you usually come into Becker from the south side. There’s also a one person bathroom on the main floor of the south side right behind the elevator (next to the conference room).

will my single most likely have a window? im trying to decide if i should bring blackout curtains or not

thanks for the bathroom info! I found that one-person one once but that was it.

all dorm rooms would certainly have a window.

Are any of the mirrors in the hallway singles full-length?

^ i think they all are

Yup, the mirrors are full-length and huge.
