OK, so I've read all the other USC housing threads, and I'm pretty close between Birnkrant and Fluor. I'm leaning toward Fluor, but there's one thing that could make or break my choice: is the distance really that big of a problem? It seems as though some people think the bathroom/kitchenette is worth the walk to classes, but if I were running late that could be a pain... On the other hand, if the walk is tolerable, it wouldn't be sooo bad (and a little exercise couldn't hurt) I'm undeclared, so I'm not sure where my GE classes would be located.

I never actually been on campus, but I heard the walk is only about 10-15 mins, which is NOTHING. That's about 3-5 songs on your ipod during your walk, and you DO get exercise while enjoying the LA weather =)

Plus, if you are a gym person, Fluor is quite close to the gym, it's pretty much an ideal location if you are into that sort of stuff.

A/C is also a plus on those random days when LA gets a heat wave, or turn really really cold.

i have a lot friends in Fluor, and that seems like the last thing they complain about (actually, there's very little they complain about Fluor, except for a few months when the lobby smelled like a fish market :p). the walk really is nothing once you get to know the campus (which happens quickly enough)...even to Taper Hall and Grace Ford Salvatori Hall, where many of your GEs will be, the walk is more than tolerable. not to mention, even to Kaprielian, which is notoriously far from everything, the walk isn't that bad.

really, unless you're an athlete, the distance from any place on campus for any of the dorms on campus is almost negligible. the small size of the campus facilitates this, as well as the fact that if you're far from a place you want to be, you're really close to another (in the case of Fluor, they're next to the gym, Cafe 84, and a 24 hour computer lab). everything pretty much equalizes, no one place gets shafted in terms of location (except maybe Trojan Hall :p)
