My daughter has been accepted to IU and we went and saw it and loved it. We need to fill out the housing request form. She loves theatre and being social but isn't a big party girl. Any suggestions?

Southeast. 10char

I second Southeast as a good choice. Lots of artsy types, musicians, etc. My D is enjoying it over there. Having lots of fun, but not of the drunk-and-disorderly sort.

Also, depending on your D’s personality, Collins could be a possibility. That is where my D wanted to be originally but applied too late for housing to get in. Collins is also attracts artsy students but has a more alternative vibe–and a really strong community feel. It’s an LLC (Living/lLearning Community) so you have to apply specially and state why you want to be in Collins. There’s a website link to it on the RPS web site. By looking over the web site you’ll get a sense of it–very eco-friendly, vegetarian, etc; they have a student-run coffee shop in the dorm where profits go to charity, with open mike nights, poetry readings…that kind of stuff. If that sounds like her kind of thing, worth checking out.

Collins and Read should be her first two choices. IUmom7 gave a very good description of Collins. It is a very relaxed environment where a lot of cultural events and gatherings take place. Read should be her second choice. Read is mostly music and theater majors, so she would have no problem finding friends and people with similar interests. I was an RA for two years and can tell you that Read had the second least disciplinary actions of all the dorms 2007-2008 and 2008-2009, so she won’t feel out of place for not being a party girl. Finally, get those housing apps in ASAP! The sooner the better. Best of luck!

^ just curious, which one had the least?

Wilkie had the least both years, but that’s mostly because of the population (all sophomores and above) as well as the system. Wilkie doesn’t have Resident Assistants they have floor presidents and their write ups are mostly done as the last resort.

Is there dedicated honors college housing?

^ Yes there is. A lot of dorms have honors floors. I have a friend who lives on one in Teter.

Yes there is honors housing in each neighborhood. One floor in Briscoe, two floors in Teter and three floors in Forest. Given your prior statements I would apply for Forest first then Teter and ignore Briscoe. I lived on an honors floor in Forest and later was a resident assistant for a different honors floor. The honors floors are called HRCs or Honors Residential Communities. They are great for those who wish to stay away from drinking, but at the same time have a very active social life. In both Teter and Forest all honors floors have programs as floors and as a whole community while also letting the floors mingle within each residence center. It is a FANTASTIC program in my opinion and one you would be very happy to be in. Any questions about it just message me.
