Housing for Freshmen

Hey everyone, I will be a freshman at UCLA this fall. I was wondering if plazas are recommendable for freshmen. I know that halls are more sociable but I am really not into community bathrooms; however, I want the social experience as well. So is it easy for freshmen to make friends in plazas too? Or will I absolutely have a better experience in halls as a freshman?
Thanks everyone!

Hi!! I’m currently a freshman living in a classic res hall

In my experience (and from what I’ve seen with my friends), halls are definitely more social than plazas. Small rooms and communal bathrooms might seem like a drawback, but they get people out of their rooms, making it easier to socialize. I think there are also a lot more freshman living in halls, so people are usually friendly and interested in meeting people. Many of the people I know living in plazas don’t know their floor mates at all, but they’ve found friends in other places around campus like classes, clubs, jobs, etc.

Living in a classic hall has been really great for me, and I would definitely recommend it! But every floor is different, and it’s pretty hard to say that any dorm is a guaranteed great or terrible experience.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions
