housing guaranteed?

Well I was too cheap to pay the $25 and now have decided to pay it after hearing horror stories of not getting housing. So am I guaranteed to get a spot if I turn the fee in at Decemeber 31.

Call housing and ask someone where you'd be on the priority list. They can probably tell you if it's completely hopeless at this point. They would know how many available rooms vs. how many applicants there are- even if they don't know the acceptance numbers, at least they will have an idea based on averages.

Well, it's already Jan 1st on UF time. I suspect there are still many folks who do not realize that they need to get a housing deposit in BEFORE they are accepted to have a good chance at on campus housing. I think that waiting until Feb when results come out is a mstake. I would get your deposit in now.

As far as I know they sort the housing applications by date submitted (postmark). If yours was posted Dec 31 the only guarantee is that you'd be one of the last ones on a very long list that started months ago. For Honors it might be different.

So just out of curiosity... What do you think is a good date to have submitted it by to ensure a "good" spot? I submitted my deposit either at the beginning or middle of November.

Refer back to post #4 and substitute the date you submitted your application.
They have around 7000 dorms available for ALL students and they accept 6600 freshmen.

Mine was submitted 11/21. They opened applications for housing on 11/08

As far as I know you could apply for housing as soon as you applied to the university. Application for admission started on July 1st and for all practical purposes ended Nov. 1st. Go to UF website and look for Housing. The actual date that determines your place in line is the date your $25 check cleared, not the postmark (correction to post #4).

I didn't apply for housing yet.. I was planning to do it today or tomorrow. so is it too late?!

i just looked over my s's UF file and he applied for housing July 12, 2007. he received an email after submitting his application in July and it informed him of the housing deposit option. he asked for cc and applied back then.

Somebody was reading the information provided in UF's website way back.

Fairly positive that you still can get on campus housing if you apply now. You are down on the list (most applicants applied for housing before November 1) so you may not get your first or second choice dorm but you will definitely still get on campus housing. The people who were closed out of housing last year applied (for housing) after March.

Apply for housing as soon as you can. Surprisingly, I knew numerous people who were pushed out of dorms-- you are NOT guaranteed housing until they tell you so, if they do at all. Simply because it was mentioned earlier and for anyone who wants to know, Honors is not different at all: your spot in housing applications transfers over to their lists and you must have Hume listed in your housing picks. They will notify you if you don't get into Honors to change your preferences.

I applied for housing yesterday and on the housing paper UF sent me it said I would recieve an email comfirmation after.. and I haven't recieved one yet. Should I be worried?

Okay, wait, what?? I applied for the 2008/2009 year on 10/18... And I applied for housing on 10/19. But all the "housing application" asked for was the $25, which I paid... That was all we had to do to be placed in line for housing and give us our priority number, right?? I figured we'd pick dorm preferences and such AFTER getting admission... And then based on our priority number, go from there. Is this right? I'm kinda worried now; I'm an out-of-stater. :P

Also remember after you pick your dorm preferences, pay your housing deposit on time (I think its still $200) or your priority date will change to when you turn that it.

A little confused still... Do dorm preferences come after admission? And your priority date can shift up or down based up when you pay your housing deposit? If that's the case, what's the point of the $25? I thought that was only to establish your priority date?

You file your preferences after you have been admitted and offered a housing contract

Ah ... thank you, thank you, thank you for putting out this info on the off-campus dorms. We had NO IDEA these were even available, and I like them so much better, and I'm sure my D will, too. We've been frustrated looking at UF on campus housing, but then we're comparing it to her brother's situation at UCF (The Towers honors section). It's hard to get excited about communal bathrooms and no roommate matching when you're a quiet kid who really, really needs your privacy in order to recharge.
