Yeah, it looks like a fun dorm... although there seems to be a stigma about Stern dorms.

Not anything like the undeserved stigma attached to EastFlo dorms.

how is serra different from the other stern dorms?

It probably isn't. But apparently there's some deal with construction next year, right outside of Serra or something. so a lot of the rooms in Serra are converted into singles. So there probably won't be as many people in serra as in previous years.

does anyone know if internet in stern (specifically zapata) is wireless or wired?

^same question but for lag (especially Ujamaa). Also what internet spped is average at Stanford?

its safe to say that basically in every dorm, you get both wired and wireless internet access. obviously ethernet is many times faster, so i know people who plug in when they're in the dorm room and go wireless everywhere else (aka talking on AIM in lecture, surfing, etc). it's kind of a hassle to deal with wires, so i just use wireless everywhere.

as far as the actual speed, i usually get like 300~400 kbps downloading stuff wirelessly. much much faster when im connected. (this doesn't apply to bittorrent/etc, btw. stanford limits file-sharing bandwidth in the dorm rooms...something like that, so its hecka slow...for THAT, i usually go to green library, basically unlimited bandwidth.)

I got Adelfa too. I hope I get a big room :(

Don't get your hopes up with Adelfa as a frosh.

um...all lag rooms are singles that were converted into doubles. all of them. they're the smallest rooms for freshmen, but don't worry, you'll manage.

on the brightside, you'll have sinks in your own rooms in adelfa so you dont have to brush ur teeth in front of strangers.

(apparently thats a private "thing" for some people? i never got that)

aargh, that sucks :(

BTW, does Adelfa have wireless now - I recall reading a post of current_student's where he said that it didn't? And is it kinda isolated from the rest of the campus (that's what I've read)?

Oh, one last question - is the sink like right in the room, or is there a separate attached bathroom with just the sink?

On the bright side though, I really like cycling and I've heard the trail around the lake is pretty good. And I believe the dorm looks really pretty with Spanish-influenced architecture (my favorite) ;)

P.S. - Links to pics would be great. I've been looking for some but I can't find any.

Hey,
I got Ujamaa which is in Lag too and I don't think its too solated, you can look at the map its right next to Roble and it seems to be less than 1km away from the main quad.
Here are some pics from Adelfa: http://assu.stanford.edu/draw/pics/Adelfa/

How is Paloma?

To clarify current_student: That's all rooms for frosh. Upperclassmen get singles that are actually singles. Or a few normal doubles and triples.

And the ASSU site that superwizard posted has pics from all the dorms if you poke around.

can anyone tell me about naranja?

yeah, sorry. i meant all freshman rooms are double made from singles. upperclassmen have the same size room, but with as singles (except for a few slightly bigger ones that staff have) and there are a few triples. but trust me you won't get those.

naranja is in east lagunita w/ ujamma next to it. west lag is adelfa, eucalipto, granada, and ujamma. they have the exact same layout as all the other lag dorms and the same room size for freshman. the bad part is that it's not really part (in terms of association) of ujamma, so it doesn't have the collectiveness west lag has with inter dorm activities. so it's kind of a random dorm in lag. but don't worry, i'm sure there will be cool people next year and make sure you interact with people within all of lag.

does anyone know about cedro?

can anyone give me details on Serra? besides that the food sucks?

Does anyone know anything about Larkin?
