Oh, I don’t think they’ve saved any for Ridgecrest.

I think they’ve just held back some - in maybe Riverside north - to make sure that all in honors get some.

Or, maybe they haven’t held back any.

It just seems odd that Montegut and you can only see a couple of empty beds left in honors when surely there are more honors kids then that who haven’t selected yet.

maybe ridgecrest s was taken up mostly by returning students.

cheerleader - did you register on alabama’s roommate finder? can you pm me your name and i will pm you my DD’s name so you all can check each other out.

then, if you all decide you are a match, then if you find a room with two spots you can put both of you in a room.

i am just going with the “people will change their minds and rooms will open up” theory and not worrying about it a lot now. nothing i can do now.

my DD has emailed a bunch of people and hasn’t found anyone with space.

montegut-how do you get in to “look around” My son took a room, but we want to see what else is available and it always says housing selection not available.

Go to mybama, on line housing, like you did when you selected your room. It will come up, “My Housing”. Click on Fall 2010/Spring 2011,the middle circle. It will show your room and your roommates and their email addresses. Next to the my housing tab will be a room selection tab. Click on that. Now, I just did that, and it says, room selection not available at this time. When I did it earlier this evening, though, it had a couple of tabs across the top, like room selection and room swap. I clicked on room selection, I believe, and looked for spaces. I just put one space and all buildings. It showed a listing of rooms with available spaces, including those with more than one space. I don’t do anything after that, just exit out, since son is happy with his room. I’ve done this for two reasons: One, to see if he still has the same roommates, and second, to help out any friends that are looking for empty rooms and letting them know what’s available. Of course, I can’t put them in a room, only if I get an empty space and can pull them in as a roommate. But at least I can tell someone if a top choice building is full, so they can start looking for an alternate. I don’t know what days housing is available, but I guess since we’ve past our pick date, whenever housing selection is open again, son is able to go in and swap rooms, pull in roommates, whatever. Hope this helps.

Actually, there is a link where it says room selection not available which leads you to the housing website. Apparently, room selection closed at ten tonight and will not reopen until May 10. So I’m guess I will not be able to go in and look around again until May 10. Who knows, by that time, people will have withdrawn and there will be rooms available. Good luck to all!

so may 10 we can switch rooms if we want. I am just asking because we just picked a room but dont know the roommate. If he meets someone at orientation or roommate finder then he can still change. My son is very easy, he doesnt care much. He is the one that wants a room in the regular dorms. So, right now we picked Burke East. He really wants the traditional dorms, but I am hoping he might find a roommate that he matches with.

“Room selection will close April 29 at 10 p.m. and will reopen on May 10 for all freshmen who completed their application by the April 1 deadline. Beginning May 10, you may choose a room each afternoon from 4 p.m. until 7 a.m. the following morning. Room selection is closed each day from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Room selection will end on July 2, 2010. Please note, all times listed are Central Time.”

So everyday from May 10th to July 2nd you can log in and either select a room if you haven’t done so already, or you can switch rooms if you find something better.

Burke is the best of the “traditional dorms” IMHO, so I’d definitely stay there if that’s the type of dorm your son wants.

At Capstone Day, the housing lady told us that a student had changed rooms 33 times! So it doesn’t look like you’re necessarily stuck where you put yourself initially. You may have to do a little, or a lot, of work if you’re really unhappy where you are.

I remember that comment Montegut! It stuck with me I mean, I can understand a few times, but 33? Wonder how that student ended up feeling about where she landed?
