I need housing advice

Hi all
I need to tap the collective UA brain ~

D has decided that she would like to change honors dorms in order to be closer to her classes. She is currently in Riverside North, and would like Ridgecrest or Lakeside. I know, I know - pretty darned late in the game for any changes. I see that Freshman room selection is open each night until June 30th. Would D - rising sophomore - be able to make changes during the open hours, as well - and is there any danger of her losing her space and not getting a new one if she fiddles with the set up?

Late, yes, impossible, I don’t know…even back to the beginning of room selection, it was hard to get into Ridgecrest South. I think that the others were going quick as well.

Best bet is to call Housing and ask these questions:
Housing and Residential Communities | Box 870399 | Tuscaloosa, AL 35487 | (888) 498-BAMA or (205)348-6676

If they cannot do anything now, maybe your daughter can check again in August. I suppose it is always possible that an upperclassman would decide to move off campus.

Online room selection is not open to non-freshmen over the summer. That said, Housing does know which rooms are available, including the rooms that they are currently designating for spring arrivals, and do have the power to make a switch. Call them and see what they can do.

Where are her classes and how close does she need to be to them? Don’t think she’d be saving that much time or energy in moving since Ridgecrest, Lakeside and Riverside are all in the same area.

Well, Riverside North is on the very backside of the complex, and while the other buildings wouldn’t be a whole lot closer she thinks the parking situation will be better, and she won’t have to deal with construction going on right behind her.

That said, Riverside is still a great option, so worst case scenario is she stays and that’s not a bad thing.

We do have an email query out to housing, but I’ll tell D to just go ahead and call.

Thanks and Roll Tide

I would definitely call Housing. My son and his roommate became interested in moving to the Bluffs, but long after they had committed to return to Ridgecrest West. His roommate called and e-mailed that they would be interested in moving if something became available. An apartment did, and they will be living there this fall.

Call housing. Like momreads’ son (actually at his advice), I emailed Housing in June and 10 days later I got an email back about an opportunity to live in the Bluff, which I took instead of living in CrestWest. You can definitely switch. Upperclassmen and freshmen both change housing over the summer, so the likelihood is high that a space will open up. However, you may be at the end of a long waiting list for said space.
