Housing on campus for transfer students?

So from what I have heard it is next to near impossible to get on-campus housing for anyone that is not a freshman. I will potentially(On of my top choices) be attending Auburn next Fall and I would like to know if it is worth putting in an application for housing if all they accept are freshmen. In addition, if their is a possibility of on-campus housing for transfers(I will be a junior coming in) what are the best on campus housing locations?

You can look at their website and see where at what is available - my son preferred the Quad (standard 2 bed dorm rooms with shared bath with other 2 room dorm) as opposed to the Village (private rooms) and more apartment like. The Quad is in the middle of everything, next to the library, the student center and the stadium…everything is walking distance (but its all pretty much walking distance on campus).

I wouldn’t worry too much about on campus housing - most kids after Freshman year want to be in an apartment off campus (much cheaper) and the Tiger Transit hits all the major apartments so you don’t need a car.

Unless you really want to stay on-campus, I strongly recommend avoiding on-campus housing. Yes, it is hard to get (they can’t even hold the whole freshman class, hence the fact that our freshman are the few allowed to live off-campus) and is extremely expensive. I’m a freshman paying HALF of what my classmates are paying by living off-campus, and I’m less than a mile walk to the center of it (and as threeofthree mentioned, Tiger Transit is very convenient).

If you’d consider living off-campus, I’d google these complexes: Eagle’s West, Logan Square, The Connection, The Hub, Eagle’s South… Also, AU has an off-campus housing page with a list of their recommendations that was super helpful when I was picking out a place to live. South College Street and Magnolia Ave are great roads to base your search off of (south campus and west campus, respectively).

But, if you really (really) want to live on-campus, South Donahue is the nicest place (but very hard to get into) and the Village would be the second best option. Avoid the Hill and Cambridge at all costs (at least, that’s what my friends living there tell me).
