So I sent my housing application in rather late compared to others I suppose before this school year but it was a couple months before the deadline. Anyways, I am updating my new ones and am wondering whether I should put my top preferences as my 4th & 5th so I have a better chance of getting into them since I know I will be chosen late. Any advice from people who have done this before or know for sure what to do?

An interesting way of thinking! But the way it works is that when it is your turn to get assigned a dorm, UT Housing will look at your first preference and see if it’s still available. If it is, you will be assigned your first preference. If it is not, they will look at your second choice, etc. So that means you should put your top preferences 1st and 2nd.

If there isn’t enough room, they ignore your preferences altogether. My son picked every dorm except Creekside and was placed in Creekside.

Are Co-ops a good option? I’m sending in my application in the middle of next month. My transcripts have already been sent and the application is pretty much finished. I just need to get my essays looked at and make my resume look good.

Co-ops are an excellent and cost-effective option. I guess there are a few minuses but mainly pluses. I’ve lived in a dorm on campus, by myself in a studio apt., and in a co-op, and the co-op has been my favorite living situation by far.
