housing question!!!(&etc.)

i’m an international female, and i got accepted into College Of Liberal Arts.
my questions are

exactly how do you apply for housing? (what is the process?) i mean, i get that you have to apply for housing on-campus, and then do you get to choose the house?

how much more expensive is a single compared to a double?

what about those private dorms off campus?(like Castilian, Dobie and etc.)
how do you apply to those dorms? are they more expensive?

I’m not really a party person, so I don’t think Jester would be right for me…what dorms do you recommend?

can you give me an overall review of the dorms, especially kinsolving and littlefield? (the all-female dorms, my mom is trying to get me into one while i am trying to talk her out of it :S)

can you apply for honors afterwards (like later in freshman or soph. year or something)?

can you change majors? I am having doubts about my major, and i was wondering if getting accepted to that major is absolutely binding. If you can change majors, then when?
Also, is it possible for a psychology BA student to change to a psychology BS?

how about transferring to a different school (natural sciences, mccombs, etc.) Is it difficult? Is it possible?

Thx a lot!!

It is possible. Doing an internal transfer (from one major to, say, the McCombs school) is what I am going to do since I missed the fall application period, and am applying for the spring. Internal transfer applicants into McCombs are accepted at a 70% rate.

hey i am who i am,
it's funny that i am also an international student, female, and accepted into the college of liberal arts! AND had similar questions to yours!!
where will you be going to UT from?
there is a link from your page to the housing site with all the prices, the difference is pretty big but not huge... but i would go for a double room.
i'm not a huge party person either, so i am considering the other dorms although they will be harder to get because they house less people, but i havent applied for housing yet. i'll be visiting the school next week, so i'll have a bigger picture of where to apply then... i think i can give you some answers then, as i will have them for myself as well..!!
did you get invited to apply for the TX Interdisciplinary Plan?

wow =)
nice to meet a fellow int'l!
i'll PM u with my reply =)

Hi -

I think I can kinda answer a few of those questions. I think within the College of Liberal Arts, you can change your major pretty easily. My d's first choice was B.S. Psychology as well because they have an excellent pre-med track program. Changing colleges is where it gets difficult...especially from COLA to McCombs or Communications....but majors within a college, especially COLA, shouldn't be too hard.

There are several honors programs...departmental and upperclassman honors program that you become eligible for after freshman year.
Here is a link to the COLA Honors page:
http://www.utexas.edu/cola/honors_programs/

Also, my d signed up for Castillian. I think it is a little bit more expensive than school-owned dorms, but it is conveniently located. I hear Castillian is a lot of fun, but not so much that academics take a back seat. University Towers is probably the loudest/wildest...my d didn't want to have to continually tell people to be quiet when she had homework, so Towers was not even considered. But she also felt Dobie Center might be a little too quiet and reserved.

Of course, she is still trying to decide between UT-Austin and the honors program at UNC-Chapel Hill. But we reserved housing just in case.
