I am applying to the honors program at McCombs and I'm from NJ. I have never even seen UT Austin, so I have no idea what it looks like, or what dorms are good or what not. They have a strange set up applying for housing before you even get in. I'm not sure if I should be registering and picking a dorm before I've ever even seen them. Should I hold off choosing until I visit (probably March or April), or will I get stuck in some crappy dorm if I don't sign up now?

i submitted my housing app, and it never included a section asking me where i wanted to live. did i skip something?

Nopes, you pick your dorm later. The earlier you submit your app, the more likely you get the dorm you want. First come, first serve essentially.

Oh I didn't know it worked that way. In that case I may as well send it in. Just a waste of 50 bucks if I don't get in or go there.

If you get into the school of business I would recommend one of the honors dorms--andrews, blanton, or carothers. Here's some info on all the different dorms: http://www.utexas.edu/student/housing/index.php?site=1&scode=4&id=640&menu=63 ; I'm sure there is another post somewhere here that talks about the dorms.

Lol if you send it now, you're screwed

baklava, why?

i hav ebeen accepted to the school but still waiting on decision from McCombs, but i just sent my housing 50 bucks and enrollment 200 bucks today....why am i screwed?

because you're probably going to get stuck with Jester, Jester Supplemental even more likely. The school gives out priority to those that sent the housing applications earliest (starting from September). My suggestion: apply to towers, it's better anyways.

so i could've got into a good dorm and got priority without getting acceptence from mccombs?

im trying to choose my housing choice online nad i keep getting this message:
You do not have an active housing contract in existence.

I sent in all the stuff tho.

there are freshman at towers?

screw that, go to dobie or castillian. Maid service all the way. Yeah, people who start applying for housing after september are usually stuck with jester. Only hook is if you have a friend who applied REALL early and put you as their roommate for their preference

when they are making decisions on housing (after may 1 when people send in their deposits) they give priority to honors students if they want an honors dorms, then for the regular dorms, they give priority to those that submitted just the housing application earliest without regard to what college they are in.

towers is pretty much all freshmen. towers has maid service too.

Don't bother with on campus, unless you get into an honors dorm maybe. Castilian is the way to go - most social.

how do u get into towers and not pay double. like is it considered on campus? or is it off campus and u have to pay for that plus an on campus dorm?

you just don't apply to on-campus or turn down their offer if you already applied. then call towers, or go to www.universitytowers.com and apply

It's $8000 for the cheapest Towers dorm - please be aware that this dorm smells like rotten **** and there are loud parties there frequently, but it is apartment style with a kitchen and a balcony. On-campus is about $7000, but you will most certainly run out of dining dollars before the end of the year, while at the off-campus dorms you can get unlimited meals.
