Housing Selection if Applying to Honors???

Daughter is applying to Honors and would like to live in Hume if accepted to Honors. However, she received an e-mail that her deadline for completing the housing contract is March 20. The Honors website says acceptances to Honors won’t come out before March 31, so how is this supposed to work?

Also, the housing apparently opens this Friday. Is it first come, first served at that point? If she waits until closer to March 20, will she have very few options? We thought that the date we put in the $25 deposit was supposed to “secure her place in line” for housing, but now it doesn’t seem to work that way. We’re very confused and would appreciate any help!

Last year, we completed our housing contact. We then could go online and enter our preferences. That include LLC (like honor’s housing), and roommates. The LLC has to be your top selection (I think).

They then confirm that you qualify for the LLC. In the case of honors, that you’re accepted to the honors program. This step could take a few weeks.

Then in May, your choices become finalized as they slot you into your room.

I think, to get into Honors housing, the most important thing is being in the honors program. After that, it’s based on application date (non-honor students can also stay at Hume, if any space is available).

This is the response I received from Housing when I had same question

Thank you for reaching out to us! If your student is accepted they will not automatically be placed into Hume Hall as we do not require students to live in Hume if they are a part of the Honors program. However if they are accepted into the program they will be able to add the Honors LLC preference onto their account prior to May 1st and we can look into pre-assigning the student based on the housing application date. If your student applied prior to December 1st, 2017 they will be able to self select where they will like to stay for their contract if they are not able to be placed into Hume Hall as a part of the Honors College. He can list other building and room type preferences now and can update them through May 1st.

We are concerned that we have not heard back about are son’s room assignment. He is in the honors program and selected Hume as his dorm. We placed our housing deposit back in October. We thought that we would have heard by last Friday for this LLC, but have no notice on his Gator link email so far…so we are concerned. We know of many other UF honors students who have gotten their room assignments at Hume last week. We would appreciate any insight about what we should do at this point, if anything?
