I just got the email today about filling out the online housing application. I really don't want to be on North Campus, but if I submit my housing application today is it already to late and I am destined to be put on North Campus. Does anyone know any tricks, besides single-gender housing, to help my chances of being on Hill/Central.

I asked a somewhat related question about the issue of housing forms mailed late and Dragon45 responded:

"I talked to some peeps with UMich housing staff/ undegrad affairs when i was there on spring visit day... they basicalyl said not to worry because most requests in april are given equal consdieration. Besides, a solid 40% of the people at my school who are going to UMich have not done anything in regards to housing etc... no worries mate! "

Apply for one of the learning communities.

As said above, look for something like HSSP(health science scholars) or UROP(research ops) or something like that

My S, if he does go to Michigan, had the same concerns. After speaking to a friend, whose son is there, she told me a lot of freshman do live on North Campus. She also said that a lot of kids are upset, at first, ...but once they move in, end up loving it. Hope this helps.

If an incoming freshmen female requests to live in same sex housing on central campus, are they likely to have their request honored? I mean, do they have a lot of requests for same-gender housing? Thanks!

what do you mean its already too late? central campus cant be completely filled up already can it?

west and south quad is full....some left on hill....then there's north which seems like it never fills up lol

UM2010 - if you ask for all-female housing, you will almost certainly get it. There is no all-male housing. The all female halls are Barbour & Newbery on Central, and Stockwell on the Hill. There is also Martha Cook, which is a separate application process.

there are also all -female halls of buildings....I'm not sure what the process is with that though.

Is honors housing full yet? Am i guaranteed honors housing...

It seemed to me in the info session that my admission to honors was a fast track to central campus.

im also curious about honors housing. We're still guaranteed south quad even if we dont have our stuff in yet, right?

Don't know... I just sent mine in April 12.

The whole honors thing doesnt make much sense if you dont live there though (then you just have hard classes :( )

if ur in honors, u will like 99.9% chance be in S. QUad u lucky lucky sob's lol

Just want to say that North Campus really isn't that bad. Students who live in Bursley and Baits learn to love it and many ask to come back the next year. They are really the best dorms -- your rooms will be bigger than in Markley. So I guess I'm just saying...don't freak out if you get placed in Bursley or Baits. Yes, you'll have to ride the bus. But 2000 other students will be right there with you and you'll make friends just as easily as if you were on Central/Hill. It's only a 10 min bus ride.
