la_scorcha - the main advantage is being able to live together with other CHP students who will be taking the same classes as you. There's something special about living with people who are going through the same thing that you are. It's easy to form study groups, and if you study late into the night, you don't have to worry about going back home afterward. You can just leave you stuff where it is and go into your room and crash. There is a lot of support, and the people you live with will constitute a large portion of your social network. Also, a lot of the events that the CHP office plans takes place at the honors halls and houses.

tennisstudrogie - you can pick your roommates. There is a line on the housing info sheet where you can request a roommate by putting their name down and their student ID number down. If you request someone, and they also request you, then they will put you together. If you wish to live with TWO of your friends, you can request a triple room, but triple rooms kinda suck (there are very few triple rooms at UCI). It's really cramped and if you're claustrophobic I'd recommend against it. It is cheaper, though, and it would save you from having to choose between your two best friends.

R they gonna ask wat type of roommate u want?
I heard a lot of Mesa Court ppl major in dance/drama n therefore rn't that "nerdy", n that more Asians live at Middle Earth cuz a lot major in bio science.
I'm nervous if i can fit in cuz i'm neither too nerdy or too outgoing. But i heard u can still have fun at clubs or sororities, not just in ur dorm?
Also i heard the setup of Mesa is easier to socialize.

WhenD - I believe you can state a preference and they'll try to honor it, but there's no guarantee

Casper - They have you fill out a form and they try to match you up with someone similar.

There are some MC people who are in the arts, but it's a tiny number. There will be people from all majors in both complexes, so I don't think one will be any nerdier than the other. You'll fit in fine, since most people are in the middle of nerdy and outgoing. You can have fun all over the place, not just in the dorm.

There's a form you fill out where you talk about your sleeping habits (how early you go to bed and wake up) and smoking habits (do you smoke, do you want to live with a smoker), whether you prefer a single-gender or co-ed suite, and a few other things. Then they match people up based on that. I know it's not much, but it's really the best they can do in the amount of time they have.

People will lie on these forms, so hopefully you'll be honest and fill it out truthfully. Some people will fill out their form to get the kind of roommate they want, rather than what kind of person THEY really are. My freshman year I didn't want to live with a smoker and of course the guy I lived with was a smoker. But it wasn't that bad because he never smoked in the room and didn't smell like cigarettes or anything. But at first I was a little ****ed, but then he told me that he didn't put down that he was a smoker because it was a secret from his parents and he didn't want them to see it on the form.

i kept hearing Mesa Court is spacious n newer and bigger than most of Middle Earth dorms. Is that true?

I know these buildings r all built differnet times, but wat about overall? I didn't like Aroyo of Mesa Court although thats like the oldest one.
I toured n kind of liked Aldor of Middle Earth. But comparing these 2 is bias rite cuz they're buitt in differnet phases.

Mesa Court was built first, but the entire complex has been refurbished within the last 5 years I think. Both complexes have new buildings that were all built within the last 3-4 years as well.

I think the rooms in Mesa might be more spacious, but I think with the new furniture you can't really re-arrange your beds and desks like you can in Middle.

The "suites" aren't like suites in a hotel. The suite is the way that rooms are arranged. In a Mesa Court unit 1 building, for example, there are usually eight people (4 rooms) in a suite. The doors all open up into a common room that has a couch and a table with chairs to be used for studying or whatever. Each suite also has a bathroom. So no one actually lives in the suite.

hey so im gonna stay in mesa hopefully... so yea i wuz just wondering wut do they give you.. i heard like just desk, chair, bed, wardrobe. Do we get like drawers, or wut else? and also i see on the housing site the bathroom situation for ME, but wut bout mesa..?

i lived in a phase III middle earth.. and at the beginning of the year, there was no wireless.. but as the year went on, people bought wireless routers (or whatever they're called) and i started to pick up more wireless signal.. just depends on what kind of ppl are in your dorm and if they're willing to share

After some changes here and there, I put my name on the waiting list for Housing at UCI. What do you think the chances are for me to end up with a spot come fall?
