What housing are all you new freshman applying for?

And what do you guys think my chances are...

out of state
1340/2030 SAT
3.7ish GPA
2 honors classes junior year, 2 aps this year

I applied for Reed,Myers, Oglethorpe.

Its seems to me like Reed is the best. They dont do community bathrooms (i think) and it is RIGHT next to Sanford Stadium.

Reed is good, but it is kinda far from the main dining halls. It's also kinda out of the way from some of the other halls and is known for being rather quiet.

Bstorroz I'd say you're in because I got in a few days ago as an out of state with a 1260/1920 SAT and a 3.7 gpa. Maybe they liked my essays or extra cirriculars...i don't know...you should be good though.

Vig,
Which ones would you recommend based on what you've heard?

Reed and Myers for sure.

Yeah, Reed and Myers are good but O-house isn't a bad idea if there's still room. Mary Lyndon and Rutherford are both relatively cheap and have a good sense of community. Soule and Morris are pretty spiritless from what I've heard. Choose the high-rises only if you're prepared for social activities and loud noises all the time. Otherwise, stick the the Hill Community.

what do they mean by community bathrooms? Is it like at a gym class or something?

I think a community bathroom is one bathroom that is shared by the whole hall.

Well I just filled out my NC State housing application. C'mon UGA, dont make us wait until the 31st!

O-house seems to be the best in my opinion; It seems to be close to everything. I think community bath is something to stay far away from if you can. The disadvantages (lack of privacy, lack of sanitation, you hvae to carry your stuff to the bathroom, can cause lateness to class, and you might possibly have to deal with a few... annoying people such as psychos, freaks, ignoramuses, homosexuals, etc.) exceedingly outweigh the advantages (make more friends, you dont have to clean it, dont have to buy toilet paper, lol, and etc.)

Also, this is Kind of immaterial but..

Are any of you guys going to bring a laptop to class to take notes? I was thinking those new tablet laptops would be superb for notetaking and learning purposes. I just ordered a creative zen vision m. I just hope the zen's voice recording feature works for class lectures.

A few questions:

What would you say are the best dorms for freshmen? In other words, the halls with the most freshmen and obviously the most social.

O-House= Ogelthorpe?

Is it hard to get housing as a JR or SR at UGA?

here are my preferences:
1st- Oglethorpe
2nd- Russell
3rd- Creswell

which is better...Russell or Creswell?

Mine are:
1.Reed
2. Meyers
3. O-House

KJ: It's actually easier to get housing as a JR or SR since it's done by seniority/hours taken at the university. Most upperclassmen prefer to live off campus however. And yes, O-house equals Oglethorpe which does have a really nice location next to a dining house and on the bus lines. Russell and Creswell are almost entirely freshmen, so they're definitely the most social.

bluthunder: I've heard different things about both but apparently Creswell gets more fire alarms. I'd go with the order you have there.

I'm going with....

1)Russell
2)Creswell
3)Morris

They are cheap, good location, and looking forward to being social! And plus, they are just places to sleep (for me). I want to be out the dorm most of the time!

Oh, when in the housing registration, it lists "cable modem" for internet connection! I know they are faster than dialup, but how fast exactly (compared to ethernet networking)?

It's basically TI/T2 speed. Much, much faster than my cable modem at home.

I went down to look at the dorms today and Russell looked pretty decent...the whole lofted bed setup in the room I toured made the room look nice

Creswell on the other hand...hmm...the showroom didn't even look good...but I mean...it's a dorm room...you can't expect too much...but atleast they don't have central air like Russell
