Hey does anyone know anything about any of the freshman dorms? I have not visited (planning on going to Athens towards the end of January), but I got accepted EA and want to got my housing in as early as possible. If anyone can give me any information I would love it!

Here's what a current freshman had to say in an email I got: "dont live in payne! thats where i live... it sucks. im not very sure on how the high rises are... but east campus will be the best dorms.. reed is really nice.. myers is nice too. the top ones would probably be east campus, reed, myers, and ohouse."

Hope this helps!

yea i have heard that O house, myer, reed and east campus are the ones to be at

I have personally stayed in Myers and Church. Myers is extremely nice, and Church is definitely ok. As for the high rises... I've heard that were pretty bad. But that's all I know.

To sum things up:
Myers Community: Excellent location for science classes on south campus; close to O-house and Snelling dining halls
-Mary Lyndon- Mostly upperclassmen and specialized language communities. Undergoing renovation soon?
-Rutherford- Almost entirely exclusive for the Franklin Residential College, a living-learning community.
-Myers- Mostly Honors, very nice and modern facilities.
-Soule- All-girls dorm, very quiet.

O-house and Hill Community: Good location spread out along Lumpkin Street, close proximity to O-house dining hall, some Hill dorms have good proximity to Bolton
-O-house, somewhat quiet, a good number of non-freshmen. Rooms notably have sinks.
-Hill Halls- all "average", not too loud, not too quiet, not too close, not too far.

High Rises: Easily the most social parts of campus. A bit far from most classes, with Brumby especially being the furthest up Baxter Hill.
-Creswell- Notorious for fire alarms going off, although that appears to have settled down. Literally 100 feet away from Bolton dining hall and the closest to campus of the high-rises.
-Russell- I've heard mostly good things about here, with lots of partying and general loudness going on. Probably the most social dorm.
-Brumby- All-girls, known for having lots of sorority pledges. Again, the furthest from campus of almost all the dining halls.

Reed/Payne Halls: I think Reed is going to be undergoing renovations soon but in the meantime the rooms are cramped and the location is far from any dining hall. However, excellent proximity to North Campus and, perhaps most importantly, Sanford stadium.

East Campus: Athletes and upperclassmen almost exclusively, though some freshmen have been exiled out here. Close to Ramsey and East Campus dining halls, as well as school of music and art museum. Very far from everything else, especially north campus.

Thanks, vig180. Great summary!

Just an FYI...last year we registered for a dorm the day the EA decision came out...and still got none of the ones we listed as preference...so don't set your heart on anything...you get what you get. It all is fine; you'll be good no matter what.
