I need help deciding where to live....
private? undergrad res hall?? If anyone could provide opinions about the following it would be great. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT DO DO!!!!

options i am thinking about...
apartment (w/my sis.. is that allowed?)
bromley (is it worth all the money)
PAR (i kind of want a single... but is it far compared to the other dorms)
Allen
ISR
Hendrick
Busey-Allen

My final question is...is one really required to live in housing freshmen year? can one live in an apartment?

Yes. First year students must live in a University Residence Hall, Privately owned facility (Illini Tower, etc), or a greek house. (taken directly from the housing department's website). So the apartment is not an option.

Only one of those i've even been in is ISR. And it was nice. Very confusing and maze-like at first, but really not bad. Ok location close to the quad, but kinda far from some other stuff. The rooms were pretty good size compared to others i've seen (especially mine) but the place is very quiet compared to say, the 6pack.

Also, every night i spent in my friends room at ISR there was a clanging of metal at like 4am somewhere below. It must have had something to do with the air conditioning system but it went on for like 2 minutes and was loud as hell. Woke me up every time.

lol busey-allen that cracked me up....
it is my belief that the option where you might live with your sister is an option because freshmen ARE allowed to live in an apartment if it is with a sibling. that is my understanding because i almost did that.
im guessing you're a girl because busey is only a girs dorm (if you're not a girl plz correct me). Allen is not bad, I live there, but it truly is mainly for artsy/theaterish/political activists/highly liberal sudents. what's your major? bromley is so-so, starting to become get a little run down from what i heard, its rights in the middle of frat park. ISR is a fairly good option overall, close to the quad and good food, but maybe not if you're a girl.

Ok, I live in Allen too, and ALL kinds live in there. You don't have to be artsy/theaterish/political activists/highly liberal students to live there. So don't discount it for the artsy/theaterish rap it gets. I know several education, engineering, business, communication, pre-med, etc. students who live in Allen. Living in Allen also does NOT mean you HAVE to attend Unit One-related events, they are optional except for freshmen orientation.

I know someone who lived in an apartment his freshman year, and regretted it. He didn't really get to meet anyone, hang out with people, or build new friendships. Live in one of the university undergrad halls if you really want to meet people, make friends, and have a social life.

PAR/FAR are the farthest away from the main quad. The six-pack is closest to any football or basketball games, but is also notorious for noise and rowdiness.
