Housing

I was accepted for fall 09.

What is the procedure for housing? Like where, when, how, etc.

I still have not accepted the offer, as I am awaiting decisons from other colleges.

What is the best dorm?

Please help. Thank you.

my friend got accepted last week, and it said that selection for housing is tomorrow the 17th and mentioned it was on a first come first serve basis, someone else could concur or know better than me. But as far as i know you can't select housing until you actually decide to attend cal poly and depending on where you hear from housing may be too late for you by the time you want to go to cal poly. I think there was a post from someone who was asking if they can accept just to get there name on the housing list and then reject if they decide to wanna go somewhere else. You can read that if you haven't already.

Determined, you cannot sign up for housing until you accept the offer to attend Cal Poly. I would look at their website or call the housing office to find out the dates that housing opens. If you accept their offer, you want to sign up the moment it become available. You do it all online and it is very easy. There is enough housing next year for all freshman as the final phase of Poly Canyon will open up. But you want to sign up as soon as it opens - I believe that will help your chances of getting the dorm you want. My son is a freshman this year and lives in Sierra Madre. He really really likes the dorm. It is for all majors. He made friends right away. Every other floor is male/female. I can't give you input on the other dorms. My son is an animal science major (pre-vet) and absolutely loves Cal Poly. I would be happy to answer any other questions you have, if I can!

Good luck to you.

In order to be put in the line for first come first serve housing do you have to put down a payment, or do you just send in the housing application?

You have to put down the down payment too. Plus send in your meningitis awareness form. And you housing contract.

I’m sending mine out tomorrow… my friends have me all freaked out that it’s already too late, but I haven’t heard that yet…

I just talked to the housing office, and the first come first serve is determined byu the time you sent in your application, not by when you pay.

uhhohhh i just called them and they said its first come first serve according to when you have all of the boxes on the check list checked!

yeah it is, but they shouldn’t be accepting housing applications yet, unless it is different for freshman and transfers. All people I know are transfer and the housing wasn’t even accepting yet last year. While the days are ticking by for your transcripts to arrive figure out the exact date that housing opens. It will be online somewhere.

[University Housing - Cal Poly](http://www.housing.calpoly.edu/uh_calendar_list.cfm)

Here’s a list of all the importaint dates.

February 17
Fall 2009 Regular Decision and Transfer students begin to apply for Housing online through their Cal Poly portal account (my.calpoly.edu), select the “Housing” tab and then select “Housing Application System.”

If you scroll down to June, that’s when the last day to edit your housing app. is.

So, get the apps in, but I wouldn’t worry about getting in to housing if you just apply asap, there’s alot of housing on campus and I haven’t heard of a first year student not getting in if they want to be on campus with their app in a reasonable time period. And its only been 2 weeks since opening.

I got this email from the housing office this morning.

"First come first serve is based on the date you submitted your housing application online. The payment, License Agreement, Meningococcal Form, and Emergency Contacts are formalities that need to be met in order to confirm your housing. "

Thanks NBrink for your last post. I could not find that information on the web site so we rushed in the LA as well as the first payment installment.

My son spent a weekend checking out the dorms before he expressed his preferences and he’s very glad he did.

does anyone know if the dorms have air conditioning?

no A/C … bring a fan.

Red bricks have A/C & Heater… however it is regulated by the dorms. During the Fall, we had A/C that we could turn on… but when I got back after Thanksgiving break, they changed it to the heater so we didn’t have A/C anymore. I suggest to bring a fan though!

Thank you for the correction. I was told no A/C in Sierra Madre and Yosemite …
